I mean, when it says 'asap' it gets me excited (not that I"m eligible for interships in NYC) because it seems like such short notice that fewer people would apply and thus the likelihood of me getting it would increase but maybe still hundreds of people apply and it doesn't make a difference if it's short notice or not

I know what you're saying Meg, and it also limits the people who qualify severely. For example, I am a full-time student in the midwest so there is no way I could do it or even get to NY for an interview. So all the people like me are eliminated. It's pretty much only open to people living there right now. I can only apply for "advance notice" ones.

I think these posts can be useful as a way of getting access to names and email addresses that you can use later on to email about internships in the future

Unfortunately due to some of the postings which require people right now, they are limited to people who are in NYC studying or have moved to NYC hoping to intern for free for a couple of months before getting a job. It's sad but true, I've met many graduates who are working for free still waiting for a job offer. Fortunately most of them receive one in about 6 months, but it's still some time.

Interns will be working with the entire fashion team, and more specifically, with the French market. We require a minimum of three full days a week. If you really have the heart and dedication to make it in the fashion industry you should definitely not let being somewhere other than NYC discourage you!

I was working in Chicago when I received a paid internship via a phone interview. Upon hearing I had received the internship, I moved to NYC within a week. I'm not wealthy by any means, but it was a sacrafice I was willing to make for my dream. Fast forward six months and I was hired on staff as a Fashion Assistant at the magazine. I have since I left to pursue other things, but I wanted to let you guys know it can happen!!

Some internships are ongoing, though - ASAP often means they are going to take good people as they come, whether it's in 5 days or 5 months.

Brides, a Condé Nast publication based in NYC, is offering a photography internship for the summer 2008 semester. Applicants MUST be eligible for college credit and have a photography background.
