High Heels With Socks

How's this for a new twist on the subject. The other night I saw a girl dressed as follows:

Black pumps, black thin & tight leggings (were they stockings?), denim mini and a tiny coat. On her legs were basically basketball tube socks from her ankles to her knees. They were black with 3 pink horizontal stripes on top. However they were legwarmer-style but very thin, not bulky.

She looked stylish. What helped is that she was tall and lean.

I'm thinking she must have cut out the feet parts herself. I nearly stopped to tell her about this thread.

sounds cute-like something i would wear. i think socks are cute as long as they're done right with the right outfit

Weird, I have a picture of the Original Dixieland Jass Band and the trumpeter is wearing these shoes that have like woolen socks with buttons attached to the top... Could he have been a forerunner of the unconventional sock-wearing trends?

eeewww.... :P it looks real funny! can you imagine wearing socks with your manolos????
hahaha

ewwww.. imagine socks with manolos... i actually saw an old ladt wearing a poodle skirt and polkadot socks with pumps. i got serious goosebumps watching her walk hahaha :P

I don't think intellectual property rights apply to hosiery style but I'll be sure to pass on your grr-ness if I run into her again.

By the way, isn't Dennis Rodman the founder of socks with pumps?

Marni showed the sock w/ shoe look for Sp3004. This treatment was more sweet/naive than punk.

I think it can look good on the right person, but it's not for me.

Reading the thread title alone made me want to puke, so I'd have to say NO!!!

For me its a fashion victim look - overstyling, but I think the under 25's could get away with it.

On me it'd be ridiculous..

Whoops, I'm 28 and I LOVE socks with pumps  :flower:

I wear little socks in pumps with a skirt. Either to make an outfit really girly of make it a bit more sportive (depends on the kinds of socks). And I love to wear high heeled sandals with bright colored socks to live up a simple jeans outfit :P

What is very funny: I read an article in (I think) Dutch Elle that stated that girls tend to love this look while guys ALWAYS hate it :grrr:

The Queen stumbled on one of the season's hot looks by accident last week. Hilary Alexander reports

When the Queen slipped on a pair of white socks to visit the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Sikh temple in Hounslow, west London, last week, she was complying with religious custom.
Socks and heels for this autumn/winter at (from left): Cacharel, Marni and Dior

Had she kept the socks on, however, when she slipped her feet back into her classic Rayne court shoes at the end of the visit, she would have been complying with one of this season's fashion diktats. Socks and high heels, however bizarre the combination might sound, are the height of fashion this winter.

Worn together, they are reminiscent of Fifties bobby-soxers, and also bring to mind those oddly garbed Japanese teenagers who have a penchant for Westwood mini-crins and customised denim.

At the Dior autumn/winter 2004 show, models wore white ankle socks with gold platform-soled, 6in, stack-heeled winkle-pickers and bright yellow ankle socks with purple shoes. At Cacharel, it was black ankle socks with either black or snakeskin courts. Elsewhere, the socks-and-heels look went knee-high.

Consuelo Castiglioni's models, in her Marni show, wore pastel and flesh-toned knee-highs with their high heels, while at FrostFrench, it was lacy knee-highs and high-heeled boots.

Vogue's October issue endorses the trend. Under the headline "Trust us", it declares that anklelength socks and grown-up knee-highs worn with heels are perfectly chic this autumn.

one...galliano at dior does not a trend make
two...this is just a sub-trend under the eighties
three...i have seen this look work so well, but you've really have to have a certain look (a la marni) to make it not look victim-y
