whenever I think of high waisted pants...the image of horrible "mom" jeans come up (if anyone can picture what I'm talking about)....but some of these pictures actually look good and fashionable...I prefer seeing high waisted skirts and shorts than pants though...and I'm still hesitant to even get a pair. the high waist looks good in the pictures but I don't think it'll work on me.

GO FOR A HIGHER WAIST OR REGULAR RISE...ie at waist ..............its the best rise IMO , plus its on trend with the return of the higher waist....

i just bought the alvin valley trousers above cuz of the higher waist andthe long inseam, but i plan on taking in the entire leg fora slimmer/straighter cut. also the rise is 10" it is just too big for the model.

i have the same pants.........they are pretty straight wide and sleek ie like versace fall 2007 .....altering the leg would damage the tailoring.....

Those of you who bought the Victoria's Secret Grey Ant knockoffs, what does the rise measure and what does the back look like, are there pockets or is it clean? The VS website is terrible, you would think they would at least have a photo of the rear. They are now marked down to $48. I appreciate any info you can give!

I think the problem with high-waist jeans is that it is not flattering on most people and generally harder to pull off.

Unless you're a size 2. Or 0. Also, you have to have relatively narrow hips. Not NO hips like me...but smaller hips than most people.

I don't see this as being a trend that the MASSES can latch on to and really look their best.

Well higher waists yes........ie regular rise but see from the mid 70s to about the mid 90s , high waists dominated and they were worn by the masses.......so in fashion...never say never ......plus i see tons of women wearing the look

Well, yes, women did wear them back when, but that was when women with flat bottoms were content to settle because there was nothing else technologically available to make their butts look more flattering.

Now, with the cuts and pockets available today, designed SPECIFICALLY to make women look like they actually have a bottom, I don't see today's women changing back to a high-waist jean that can't lift or flatter their bottoms in the same way.

From a design standpoint, I don't see how a high waist jean could possibly flatter a woman with a flat bottom...which is most of the market out there (unless you happen to be built like Mary J. Blige with a more narrow "letter b" shaped butt).

Also, the high waist will definitely emphasize a pouch, or a less than taut tummy...unless you simply cover the pouch with a longer top, but if that's the case, then why not wear a low-rise jean that's more comfortable and less restrictive on the tummy?

It's going to take a while and a LOT of technology to somehow make the average customer look svelte and delish in a high-waist jean...for now, I don't think people are interested in looking like fashionable, circa-80's soccer moms.

I also don't think women are interested in reverting back to their flat bottoms...at least not for now.

interesting

^^^^^well again high waist came back as people are fed up with fat hanging out their sides ie muffin tops and seeing peoples butts ie whale tails , not necessarily high waisted but the main objective is to put the rise back at the waist ie 9-10 inch rise, fashionistas and trend setters will don the high waisted look but for the general masses a regular rise will filtrate its way through at the least. A rise which is flattering to all shapes and sophisticated and chic plus with the materials available today it can be made very flattering and chic. I am a size 6 and the higher waist sucks the baby fat . Also it depends on the make of the jean , you cant really generalize. Every current designer from A-Z cant be stupid to drive this look , if they knew the masses would not lap it up.......anywayz back to high waisted jeans-----------> Has anyone tried on the LAUREN BACALL jeans by 18th ammendment?

Sorry if this is repeating what other people have said...but I refuse to believe that this style will look good on anyone. They dont even look that good on Kate Moss! I also find it a bit offensive that every magazine/newspaper fashion supplement seems to be saying that they will be flattering for everyone and look better than skinny jeans....do they think we are all stupid?! Surely the best way to emphasise your hips is to wear a high waist?(ie. if you have big hips already, which anyone over size 10 will do, they will look massive) Nevermind the fact that the styles are baggy and will hang straight down from the hips hiding any decent legs that might be under there.

I saw a slightly larger girl wearing some recently with braces and all I could think of was the fat controller from Thomas the Tank Engine haha.

I disagree...I just wore the pair of skinny high-waisted jeans I posted about earlier under a long, body-hugging cashmere tunic, and while nobody could "tell" that I was wearing high-waisted jeans, the silhouette was much more chic and elegant than when I had worn the same sweater with my low-waisted skinnies...it gave me great waist definition and I was a million times more comfortable!

I must admit they do look cool on some models and on the fashion dolls (is that what you call them?) - But I can`t wear them, they make my figure look all weird and my butt 1 meter long.

I don`t belive high waisted jeans are going to stay for a long time, because there is only a small amount of people that have the figure to pull them off. Maybe designers want them to stay, but I don`t think the consumers are going to want them to stay.

Moi aussi...although, I'm a little confused now (from the earlier post). If people are talking about a regular rise...then that's one thing.

But an actual HIGH-WAIST?! Believe me, if you're not a size 4 or smaller, then you probably should not be wearing them. I thinkt he average person would look hideous in them, but of course if you feel great in them, then that's what really matters...

I saw a picture of Scarlett Johannson in them, almost a year ago, and while it could have been nice in concept, I thought she simply looked ridiculous. It made her butt look wide and flat. With the construction of the actual HIGH WAIST design, there's no way to LIFT a flat bottom...with low-rise jeans, the cut, coupled with fabrics and strategically-placed pockets, you can really lift a rear and smoosh, where necessary.

You can't do this yet with a HIGH WAIST jean (again, I'm not talking about a regular waist jean).

There's a music video with Ciara wearing a pair of highwaist jeans and she looked great in them because she has the absolutely taut tummy and high "letter b" booty to pull this off. But, if you're not builty that way (which is most of Cheap Monday's/specialty jeans' demographic), then I would suggest steering clear of this style until they figure out a way to LIFT, slim the HIPS, CINCH the waists, and prevent their average customer from looking so boxy. It's going to take a while...

i think your right!^
also, unless a designer decides to somehow, figure out a way to do a high waist, and still be able to lift your bum and not make it look like a major long ***.
disco, you mentioned before that you had a little bit of a booty. i definitely do not with my asian ***. I tried on the gray ant at intermix in nyc and even the girl that worked there told me not to get them.
I was SOOO embarressed that I even thought it could work. I have a flat butt and bigger hips (size 26 in regular jeans) so when they hung down, it was just wide, then from the side it was like someone slammed a door against my ***.
certain jeans always perk my bum up, like siwy or ag jeans.

yeah......you hit the right word...definition......I FEEL THE SAME......also relative to the rises of today...regular rise is the new high waisted...lol...........ie 9-10 inch rise.......THE grey ant ones are 11-12 inch rise ...so you have to be more fit to pull them off. Lot of labels have said their jeans are high waisted in fact , they all have 9-10 inch rises. Another thing high waisted pants(straight wide) , skirts are much more easy to pull off then jeans.

i know, i guess waists got so low that i forgot, when i frist bought my first pair of seven jeans in 2002/2003, the rise was 8" and I thought that was low.
lol! frankie b's have like a 2" zipper, which means they are about 3" rise if you include the waistband.

i don't agree - i think they look great on most sizes (except on anyone bigger than a US size 10).
I'm a size 0 - 2 and I have people walking up to me on the street complimenting me on how great they look.
I also have a friend who is a hippy US size 6 - 8 and she looks fab - just like Scarlett Johansen.
I think everyone has different tastes, but a lot of you who haven't tried them will be very surprised with the result if you try some on.
The best ones I have seen are definitely the Karen Walker ones (skinny or wide leg, I have 2 pairs of these), the 18th ammendment ones as well as the imitation of christ style. I have tried the cheap monday high waisted ones and they are badly designed and quite cheap quality too which is reflected in their cheap pricing - these ones are not flattering at all.

The 2" zipper frankie b's actually have a 6" rise, I remember I tried them years ago which was a huge mistake. They did my cover my butt at all (it's pretty small) and were way too revealing in the front, I was afraid of them falling off. I dont get how anyone could wear them.

I think what I am trying to say is that you can be any size at all, but if you have a weird shape body, these jeans don't bring out the best or hide i.
As with Skinny jeans, weird pockets, whatever people blame it on, the bottom line is your *** only looks big and fat if it is big and fat.
