How Do You Walk In High Heeled Shoes?

Thanks ladies. Are you supposed to walk toe-heel, or heel-toe? Ive read several articles that say toe heel, but how is that possible? I know it probably means more ball-of-foot than toe, but that seems wacky too?

No idea.. just walk how it's most comfortable for you is what I like to go by. I'd get a pair of heels on to see what I do but I'm enjoying my slippers too much at this moment, i'm sorry :P

I'm not too sure but personally, I go heel-toe. Maybe members who wear heels on a day-to-day basis can help you out more.

I really had to concentrate on this, but I think I walk heel-toe, too.

My advice is just practice, practice, practice :)

apparently it is easier to walk toe-heel and it kinda works for me.. it may not for other people tho..

i read somewhere that the 3 top tips for walking in heels are:
- hold your shoulders back
- walk toe heel
- walk one foot directly in front of the other..

Walking in heels requires practice to get comfortable, but it really isn't too difficult. B)

I avoided heels for years. It was a confidence issue for me. I felt that while heels made me taller, they made me bigger, and I wasn't exactly comfortable with myself at that point. I figured I was doomed to wear flats for the rest of my life, and could never wear gorgeous heels to compliment my outfits.

I wouldn't start out with an expensive shoe, just in case heels just really never end up working for you. My first pair where these shiny black leather 3.5 inch (although perhaps starting low and then working your way up one inch at a time would be a better idea...) heels that I bought for about $40 a couple years ago. I started wearing them around the house literally whenever I was home. Then I'd wear them to the grocery store, the mailbox, etc.-- basically at times when I was walking but not necessarily walking long distances, just to get myself comfortable. After a while, you just get used to it and everything just sort of comes together. :flower:

As far as toe-heel/heel-toe, I couldn't tell you. I really have no idea what I do. Now that I'm thinking about it, I can't get myself to walk normally and stop over-analyzing it.

i wear stillettos around the house all the time even when im wearing pjs... practise makes perfect

Thanks, all you guys! I will practice this weekend, Im going to the mall, and I will wear them there (and pack a pair of flip flops just in case!):flower:

I think I used to wear a new pair around the house just to get used to it. That was years ago though. I'm used to heels now and so long as it's a good pair of shoes, I wouldn't be able to "feel" the height.

u put ur high heels on and pray to god u don t fall flat on ur face, that s what i do and it works everytime :D

As I've said before, wearing high heels is a lot like ice skating: very awkward when you start, but with practice it can be outstandingly graceful!B)

I agree with Emery. I'm sure I've ruined my feet from years of wearing heels (and pointy toes) but I still wear them....they're so graceful.

dreamboatannie all I can say is practice practice practice. It's a bit like riding a bike, once you get the hang of it, you'll never forget.:flower:

I've been wearing heels for years and when I started I just walked normal like I've always been wearing them.

But reading this thread made me think if I walked toe-heel or heel-toe and I think I walk heel-toe but I'm not sure. I don't have any heels close by so I can't try either.

To dreamboatannie my tip is to start with a pair of low heels and when you feel comfortable go higher and don't walk a long distance before you get used to it.

i love your question dbannie!! cos i ask that all the time... i'm learning, but i find what works for me is - walking from the hip..

this means that while i'm heel-toeing, you lead or start each step with your hip joint.. pushing your hip forward.. i realised that in flats i walk bending my knees a lot more, and keeping ym hips somewhat unmoving..
but in heels, what works is moving your leg more from the hip, and not moving as much at the knee.

the best way to start off, is with heeled boots - even ankle boots will give you great support and stability, and thus confidence (i can run and jump in my heeled boots!).. or, shoes w ankle straps.. you can treat these shoes as
"training heels".

hth!
