Moritz Waldemeyer has sent us some backstage images from Hussein Chalayan’s Autumn/Winter 2007/8 collection, which was shown in Paris yesterday.http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/

Waldemeyer took the photos himself while working backstage at the show.

In his second collaboration with the fashion designer, designer-engineer Waldemeyer produced some new mechanical dresses plus dresses with full video capability: each is covered with 15,000 individually controllable LEDs, meaning the surface of the dresses can display moving video imagery.

“Basically there are two dresses where the whole dress is a display,” says Waldemeyer, who first worked with Chalayan for his Spring/Summer 2007 collection last year, engineering remarkable mechanical dresses with motorised flaps and seams.

“I haven’t really slept in a week,” Waldemeyer adds, “So if you will excuse me, I’m going to collapse…”

This is from last season but posted if anyone is interested in the construction...

Hussein's show contained 6 transforming dresses that covered fashion history from ca 1900 until now.
Click here for a very good video of the Paris show.

He takes it to the next level. I feel like his shows are just little sneak peaks of things were all going to take for granted in the future. One day our dresses will have automatic hoods that pop up whenever it rains and we'll think nothing of it.

I feel as though you can't get the full effect of these clothes in pictures. Seeing them move and come to life changes the experience of them entirely.

I adore the latex tights. How delightfully scandalous. Can't wait to see more people wearing them.

I also love how there are outright cheers during his shows. When have you ever heard fashion people cheer except for that like one time there was a sale at Balenciaga.

best show of the season imo...

*i would have preferred solid grey knits to the blue/wht stripes- but some of the dresses took my breath away and left my jaw on the floor...

i can't think of anything i;d like to wear more than this....

^ Tha's very cool! B)

I agree. It's a stunning collection. Wearable, yet different.

i lovvve these dresses, and a lot of the jackets, too. very dramatic, very very beautiful. if only i could afford it. :(

thanks for the nice shots lemeray

does anyone have any idea what kind of fabric the red+black striped one is? it looks like it is made of plastic. makes me think of computer wires...

I see his work as an important art installation. he seems unfettered by restraint. I loved last season for its ground-breaking themes but this is so much more wearable while at the same time still pushing traditional boundaries.
