Interview February 2010 : Jay Z by Craig McDean

It was so cruel to put such an ugly person on the cover of their magazine...
(sorry for sounding rude)

Jay-Z is fine... if only they've went to another direction. Working with someone who already has build an image for himself is only interesting when thinking outside the box, Complex or XXL magazine could have done something similar.

Awful cover, and equally insulting content it seems!

Only thing relevant to my interests is Nicolas.

 @ the pubes comment. seriously, the luz boy annoys me.

brilliant cover. not interested after seeing whats inside though.

Never thought I'd like a Jay-Z cover but I love how there's a red glow around him and a dark mood, like he was playing in a cool sci-fi movie.

Is this just the Fenruary issue or is it February/March?

I like that the cover is so..real. Little photoshop. Kind of like Brads W. But less..In your face.

:woot: I love this! very eye catching! looking forward to Patti Smith, Tim Burton and Nicolas G feature^_^

Oh my god! Go Jay! Amazing, I really love it :buzz:He isn't a photogenic person per se but this picture makes him look so cool, it grabs you visually. I agree tigerrouge, this definitely reminds me of the old illustrated covers!

^Couldn't agree more. When I first saw the cover at JustJared, I was like "Why Jay-Z??!!??". But when you look at the cover for like a minute, it'll make you appreciate it. The colors are great and I think that's what makes the cover an interesting one. Ashley Greene's ed. is stunning!

Really like the cover. Managing to make a boring cover subject appear demonic and fascinating - it's a feat.

While I appreciate the fact that Interview has tried to do something different by putting Jay-Z, who's not exactly known for his famed good looks, on the cover of the magazine, Christ almighty is that a hideously ugly cover or what? Never mind Jay-Z, it's the colors and that horribly executed red outline that's twisting my stomach into knots.

Also, I could make the point of this being once again a very standard depiction of Jay-Z, but that would not only be stating the obvious, it's also a point that's been quite accurately summed up here:

Jay-Z is fine... if only they've went to another direction. Working with someone who already has build an image for himself is only interesting when thinking outside the box, Complex or XXL magazine could have done something similar.

On another note, I, too got the Barack Obama vibe from this cover, but find the reference endlessly annoying. I have nothing against the man per se, but the constant exposure he gets via every media outlet everywhere (including my own country) is so overwhelming for me as someone who has no interest in him that seeing him being alluded to on the cover of Interview of all things and in such a pointless way feels more like being rubbed in the face with sandpaper than something of intelligence or wit. Because if there was something exceptionally clever about alluding to him on a cover featuring Jay-Z, I completely missed it.

And judging by the preview here, the inside contents are even more dreadful. Ashley Greene and Jesus Luz, both only quasi-clothed? This is the issue they want me to buy? You must be joking.

Only Nicolas Ghesquière (and, to an extent, Tim Burton) sound even remotely interesting. Oh well. Looks like this'll be another issue of Interview I don't need to go through the extra bother to get here. I guess there's a silver lining to every cloud! :D

Jay-Z is photographed by Craig McDean.

Wow! Judging by the cover, I would never have guessed.

I love the shot w. Jesus and his tongue and Jay z look very cool on the cover.

Jay-Z on the cover...? Are they kidding...?! It's horrible.

I don't think it's a bad thing if it carries a hint of Obama-ize yourself because that sort of echo would be saying some interesting stuff. Although the outline reminds me more of archive Interview covers of 1979 and way the illustrations would often have a thin highlighted line around the edge.
Yep.i loved it from the second i saw it.It's very classic Interview.
