Is Bare Minerals Worth Buying?

first day: fabulous!!! I'm loving it. We'll see if my skin likes it after a week.

I was so obsessed with Bare Minerals for the longest time, and now I am kind of itching to try something new. I have uneven skin tone and just don't think this gives me the best possible coverage. I might have to go off and explore....

I've heard that Bare Minerals can really make some people break out, while it's great for others. I use Sheer Cover and I swear by it. It's amazing - it's got a great range of colors, and it's worked beautifully for everyone I've recommended it to. Wonderful coverage using only a little bit.

I like this product because it is light. I haven't experienced any kind of itching or breakouts from it. It does cover well, but not as well as the comercial says it does.

Is the "light" really light. I'm kind of pale but i'm not sure if i should get the medium beige.

I would probably get the "light." It isn't too light, and the medium beige is dark - did you mean "fairly light" which is just slightly darker than "light"? Either way, I'd go with "light" - I found "fairly light" to be surprisingly dark :flower:

ew, just stay away from the brushes. i have the ones that came with the get started kit; foundation, kabuki and concealer.
the concealer brush is still okay, but with the others, they were okay at first but after a few washes it feels like rubbing a porcupine on your face and sheds like craaaaazy

I just got a "starter kit" at Sephora because I was amazed at how it could cover my roseacea. Now I'm trying to make it work on my own. It's fun to play with, though I'm not sure if I'll stick with it for the long term.

Any tips for making it not look too "powdery?"

And do you put moisturizer on under or over the Skin Rev-er Upper??

I moisturize over the Skin Rev-er Upper. Then I let my moisturizer "set" for 5-10 minutes before applying the foundation. As for it looking "powdery" maybe you're using too much? I really only takes just a little bit. If you look back in this thread someone posted a link to a great photo tutorial. Best of luck :flower:

Thanks for the advice! I need a serious sunscreen so that goes on my skin first, then everything else. I've been using less, especially after going back to Sephora and getting some Bisque. I think it's not the amount as much as the buffing technique I was using, which wasn't really buffing after all.

I'm going to take a look at tutorial you mention. Thanks so much!!! ^_^

the first week i bought this stuff. i was in awe. i got the "well rested" undereye concealer too. after a while i started noticing i looked kind of freakish wearing this stuff...maybe its just me though... it doesnt really give you much coverage if your looking at yourself closely, but from a far it gives this flawless look if you put it on right. i still looked a little washed out at times because i dont use the "warmth" stuff. its a little too much for me. also, having all these powders make me sneeze. its messy at times too. i dont know. i cant decide whether bare minerals is worth it or not. im gonna try a new brand of makeup when im done with bare minerals. anyone have any suggestions?

oh. and i hate the brushes too. sheds of hair left on your face isnt very pretty looking...

i agree that the medium beige is really dark.. i dont consider myself light but i am switching back to the fairly light as soon as this container of medium beige is through... my mom told me my face and my neck look really different and now i am paranoid.. i do like the fairly light better though

omg, stay away from sheer cover. It is so thick and disgusting...very orange tone and feels like a mask. Looks great from far away, but up close it looks gross. I'm going to try bare minerals next, maybe I'll have better results.

YEEESS!! I actually just posted about my love for it in another thread in this forum actually ("Applying foundation...fingers, sponge or brush"). It has pics to show the results of using BM also. However, I don't use the BM brush, I like the MAC kabuki brush which works much better. It's $45 though, but completely worth it for something your going to use for probably a very long time. I was skeptical of it at first as well, until a friend of mine introduced it to me. & now I get discounts on it....yippee!!

Can you use it over any primer? I'm really tempted to try it :D , but I just bought Chanel's blanc universel and I don't want to just let it go to waste...

And can you use normal powder blush over it?

I love it!! The only thing I have to say is that it may not cover dark undereye circles that great. It's the best besides that. I tell everyone about it and they think I work for them since I'm so excited.

It would be fine to wear over Chanel's blanc universel, btw I love that stuff although it's a bit expensive as well. I put on a yellow stick under my eyes to help camoflauge the green & then I dab Clinique concealer over that. You can also put primer on before BM, I use either MAC's strobe cream or Loreal's skin Illuminating cream. It looks really good underneath the Bare Minerals & gives you that glowy look. & yes you can use normal powder blush over the BM, I usually finish it off with MAC's blushbaby! So I'm certain it'll work. & that MAC brush I mentioned early is expensive, which is something I had a problem with at first but imagine how many times you'll end up using it as long as you keep it clean so it's a good investment. Natural bristles work so much better in makeup application & I've never tried a better buffer brush than the MAC one, & trust me I've tried quite a few ranging from all different prices.

UK Vogue had a beauty feature asking Gucci Westman (fabulous makeup artist) for her makeup staples. She said she loves to use Id minerals powder as a base and then puts foundation on top!
