^ I know it sounds crazy, but I do understand that... America seems to have main stream big companies/labels that construct the same stores around the country, while Japan has more small shops all over the place than well known labels and companies. It makes it easier to find something unique I guess...

now I dont know about jeans  I'd rather buy them over in the States

Well I'm not so sure about Comme des Garcons specifically, but I see TONS of knock-offs of chloe bags, michael kors inspired clothing and shoes and with the turquoise jewerly (its a big thing here now)... It reflects how strong Japan's youth fashion is influenced by what hollywood celebrities wear, and what they have... which are mainly from the runways.
on the other side, there are very unique items that you can find in non-main stream stores... many small unknown brands carry interesting peices of clothing, jewerly etc. that I've come to really really like. Since there are tons of tiny stores like that around Tokyo, its great not having to see 10 people having the same bag or shirt on the way to school.

Hmm... second hand shops. I haven't been to one yet, but I hear there are some really good ones in Harajuku. I hope to go to one soon. When I do, I'll be sure to report. :D

Being influenced by what celebrities wear is very depressing. I wonder why the Hollywood stylists don't dress their puppets :innocent: in more interesting ways so that people will atleast knock that off.
Yes, do tell about second hand shops!

Questions for those of you that have visited Japan: Do the bigger chain stores in Japan "knock-off" high designer goods such as Comme des Garcons, etc? (For some reason I imagine going to shops in Japan to be like going to H&M, except that I would actually like the goods :innocent: )

Also, what are the secondhand shops like?
not sure about designer clothing, but i liked secondhand shop in Nagoya,
very clean with tons of good [designer too] stuff for 400Y per kilogram:)
there were also expensive only label oriented sh shops.
thanks for the new pictures cereza an breathe! :flower: love the green coat:heart:

In my honest opinion and observations, Japanese fashion is like American fashion. Except it looks better because Japanese people are small and petite, and have cute physical appearances (most Asians do). Whereas Americans are tall, vuluptuous, and mature-looking. Also, the only reason the Japanese street fashion looks "unique" is because of their hairstyle. But if you look around shops in the US, you'll see that practically anyone will be able to pull off "Japanese trend" by just mixing and matching, and putting on layers of clothes. Of course I'm only talking about the mainstream Japanese fashion.

About Harajuku, Gals, Lolitas, Pink, and all other Japanese trends, now THOSE are unique... and weird.

I have to bring this up because its been bugging me, but what does everyone think about Gwen Stefani's use of those Japanese models? Bringing attention to the street style is great, but I personally hate it. It looks nothing like the real thing, and it seems like they are her accessories and that would just piss me off, but maybe I'm too offensive. She doesn't even pronounce Harajuku right(I'm studying Japanese). I loved Gwen's music and who she was before the whole Harajuku thing. An ethnic group is not your purse and that's how I feel like they are being portrayed.

This was a little off topic because this is about pictures and stuff, but I can't get it off my mind.

I understand what you're saying, IG, but i think she's trying to show her admiration for the styles to the Japanese, and show of her cutting edge to the Americans. I don't even think all the girls in her entourage are Japanese! I think she just wanted to try something unique that the States hadn't really seen before.

I don't really like how she protrays Japan though... theres so much more to it than peoples unique fashion sense. so I'm not so sure.
but anyways, I have some more pictures for you all :D

^ Breatheoxygen, did you take those pictures yourself? I guess it must be pretty common to just take pictures of people's outfits and not that out of the ordinary like it would be here.

I bet you anything there is probaly only a few actual Japanese people as her dancers. Or even none at all. I agree, she shouldnt be presenting them like the latest accesories and the image she portrays is a generalization that many people will take in and believe as being "True"

Funny...I was listening to Gwen today, and I was thinking to myself, "What if she knew about this thread?"

I do know at least one or two of Gwen's backup ladies are American, and I think most of them speak English, but supposedly Gwen insists they only speak Japanese to the media/out in public?

How unspeakably cool is the afro!? I have had an afro, and i hate them on me, but wow!

I've translated the page and I'm probably buying from www.babyssb.co.jp That site is awesome. I already heard about it, but it just reminded me I wanted to buy a blue lacy jump skirt from there.

I saw the cutest shoes on that site:

Ha! They're cute, but an aquired taste, i believe.

"BABY THE STARS SHINE BRIIIIIGHT!!!"
