For those more 'cosplay' dressers my understanding is that they're not so much going somewhere special.
Rather that for most of them, as students that are forced to wear a homogenous uniform five or six days of the week, they feel so restricted and 'just like everyone else' that the weekend is their time to shine and show their individuality through their dress.
