Jil Sander Mens F/W 06.07 Milan

i don't like that 80's drop shoulder box cut...

hmmm...maybe it will grow on me...
it's certainly more forgiving and easier for a lot of men to wear....
reminds me of old yohji circa 1986...

all these designers coming up today seem to have been influenced strongly by that era...

**the grey cardigan is my fave piece

Thanks for posting Mr.D...

Nah I don't like it, other than a piece here and there...

this may sound superficial but I guess it's one of the main aims of clothing...I wouldn't see a man in any one of those coats and think 'wow that looks really great' It looks to me like when a son wears his fathers suit jacket or something when he needs a suit for a special occasion...ill fitting.

I really can't comment just yet, but the box cuts are killing me. Apart from the nice luster of some of the fabrics, and some of the small details...this is very disappointing. I'm hoping I can eat my words..

well, I'm quite interested in the details of the collection, "god is in details" mies van der rohe dixit. The knitwear is pretty good, I love collar's shape.
I'm sure that the white shirts are simple perfect when worn, I'm always looking for shirts that dont need a tie.
The grey cardigan is excellent.

A little bit of toppic, but already related>>>
well, I really like the drop shoulder box cut (I really understand why somebody migth dislike it), It's fits perfect to me (body and style). I'm very dissapointed with all these clothes cutted in a tight way, I hardly find a piece of clothing that fits me outside the japanese designers.
The skinny thing is becoming a dictatorship. I don't think that if you wear yohji's cut you looks like a 50 years old man, youth doesn't = slim cut, slim cut doesn't = Stylish, youth and style is an attitude. All this trend is generating a lot of cliches

Actually I don't understand why everyone associates Yohji with a baggy, poor fitting cut. A lot of his clothes nowadays are cut very slim...especially in the Y's line. Some blazers are so slim i can't even bend down to tie my shoes when I tried them on, and I am pretty sure I am in the skinniest 10% of this site.

I'm not crazy about the boxy cut jackets either, but the look is right for certain bodies, like wire.artist. I'm far too slim and it would make me look like I was wearing my fathers jacket.

I LOVE the grey cardigan and the neckline on the black and the tan sweaters. The white shirts' collar is very nice as well.

It looks like everything is to big? He should use more "slim fit" ...

ftb-no one said baggy = poor fitting...it's two different things...
if you read my post i said yohji circa 1986....that's 20 yrs ago...
and that is what yohji looked like then...
that is who pretty much started that whole trend in the 80's...
which was THE shape of the 80's...

i agree with chris and wire...
as i said in my earlier post...
this will be a better shape for some men who were not suited for the skinny dior homme nonsense...

**someone we both know chris...;)...

**wire-'god is in the details' is a fave quote of mine.......
:flower:

yeah Y's line is much more fitted, than the mainline, I'm just in love with the mainline relaxed fit.

The point is that slim cut is considered nowadays ,in an automatic way, like something positive itself and that's crazy. (sorry for my English, I hardly ever use it).

true concepts doesn't have a time.

Well,it's definitely very Jil Sander. But I dunno if I'm happy about that or completely disappointed especially considering it's Raf.

Edit**
Completely agree with you Softie on that shoulder cut. Ick! Never liked that. And I always associated Raf with a sharper cut to that of a certain McQueen approach.

The entire thing really, looks quite dowdy.

softgrey i understand that was Yohji's look back then, even now in his main line i'm aware of his oversized cutting that's still his signature...my post wasn't directed at you, just a general statement to perceptions of his clothes, because I'm quite thin and size-wise don't have a problem wearing most of his stuff, mainline or Y's. anyway off topic so i'll stop here.

chris...it reminds me of when we were in college and used to go thrift store shopping or actually steal our father's jackets from the 60's...

so they'd have a narrow lapel and be too big and boxy with a dropped shoulder...which wound up becoming the signature look of the 80's...

...so funny...

deja vu all over again...:p
now it just needs a pork pie hat to complete the look...

'ONE STEP BEYOND'....B)...

rude boys!

i like this...sort of...the fits and shapes are a bit off to me though. i like the solids and materials...but it needs more.

yay .f for getting the rude boys reference...
i have to find some pics of 'madness' ...ha!!...
this kind of stuff is why i started the new wave style thread in art of noise...
i keep seeing things and i'm like...
'now where have i seen that before?!?'...
and it's usually on a record/band from the 80's...

everything old is new again...^_^...

B)...

I like the dropped shoulder. It will be hard to wear (look, I am so petit!) but I like it:-P

I like it that he mix the overcoat with slim pan.

Edit: who are the rude boys?:-)

Cut is so important in clothes like these, and I think most of these cuts are the furthest thing from flattering.

Called it "dropped-shoulder", but I call it "too big". It just reminds me of American men in general who buy jackets and coats too large and have the shoulders hanging over. It looks sloppy.

Boo.

Well, I've never liked Raf anyway.

I'm with nqth on this. Jil Sander has been really really bland for years now, even when she was still doing it. This is quite like the first menswewar collection, which had quite oversized soft shouldered jackets with high buttoning. It's much more interesting than usual - the fabrics particularly. I also like the grey cardi. On the whole, I think it's good.

Some things are okay, not great, not bad either. Just okay. Imo the cuts of the coats arent flattering at all to the body, something slimmer would work alot better for these style of clothes. I cant see anyone really looking good in 3/4 of these pieces.

i think that a lot of the negative reaction to this collection might be from fans of raf simons and dior homme who are used to more of a "show" and more "fashion". i've never really seen a jil sander collection that i thought was groundbreaking, the house has got its own identity and each collection has seemed to be variations on a theme.

i for one am glad that we're not seeing that fascist super skinny cut here, i am so tired of it! it would be so cliche now. everyone wants short jackets and skinny trousers, but that's dior's party trick.
