John Galliano - Designer

Not the ignorant delusional people from both stylenotcom and ideserveocuture thinking he's going to CHANEL.
MAKE IT STOP!

If only he does!! Chances not!! But only his name out of all of the “Silly” contenders bar Hedi that have been mentioned should really be at the helm of such a brand. Only other option would be to give him his name back, anything other than these two options is also just very “Silly” like someone who said he should go to Fendi?!?!.. Are we literally plucking at straws with some of these suggestions?!… Let’s be all the way fr!!

Are we, people in TFS any better than them ? You're talking as if Chanel had officially announced their CD exclusively here ( as if this forum is a secret society of Chanel's VVIPs lol ). All beings are equal, you are superior...ikr

Oh yes, because drag queen costumes and runway shows filled with clowns is just what Chanel or any other house needs now. Some people here need a reality check. When was the last time Galliano made a real fashion proposition? 20 years ago? If there is any designer out there that actually DOESN'T deserve a position, it's Galliano.

I am not a huge fan of Blazy, but I would much rather see him at Chanel than John.

Galliano is Galliano, if you want boring clothes, the all whole world is filled with them. You need a good eye to get the precious pieces hide in crazy layers. The more Galliano he is, the better the world will be.

Hard disagree. Nobody generates attention and commotion like him. Nobody can put on a show like him. Il mérite une place au firmament. Something theatrical and grandiose but also small and human. It would be great for example if he revived Poiret or went back to his old brand. Least we forget what the man can do.

I think the best outcome would be if he somehow managed to regain control of the Galliano brand. I don’t want to go back to Dior (or similar), he wouldn’t be able to handle the commercial demands of today’s landscape.
Yeah I fully agree with this. John is 64 and, although exceptionally gifted, I just don’t see a world where he throws himself back into a machine that requires 6+ collections per calendar year…especially not after the way he’s been heading up Margiela since the pandemic. If he can be allowed to run JG the way Viktor & Rolf are running their brand, that sounds like the perfect way for him to make things full circle. All he needs is 1-2 exceptionally impactful couture collections per year that can drive licensee sales (maybe a fragrance?) and he’s good to go.

Very curious to find out what’s happening. I have no doubt that, with rumors of his departure going strong for quite some time now, the timing of the anouncement means that whatever’s next is finally fully arranged.

No one wants drag queen costumes on the runway and in stores in 2025. His visuals were pretty weak and bad except for the couture show from last year so yeah, not a good fit for CHANEL.
The couture show from last year became viral only because of the makeup and it made an impact only among the few insiders who were / are tired of minimalism and quiet luxury. Funny thing, these people praised Galliano for going back to his original extravaganza as per Dior in the 2000's but completely snubbed and ignored Roberto Cavalli's passing, another pillar of the early 2000 eurotrash amongside Donatella Versace (when she was actually good) and Dolce & Gabbana. Talking about double standards.
With Balmain turning into another merchandise product oriented brand pre-pandemic, maximalism was officially dead and not everyone is into Phoebe Philo and her knock off dupes.
Dior pre 2007 was basically drag queen couture with Dior oblique logo merchandise stuff (worse than Maria Grazia), after 2007 the inspiration and the visuals became weaker and weaker after season and couture shows turned into an endless parade of tulle overload and big ball gowns a la Marie Antoinette. Maria Grazia loves her greco-roman silhouette, but at least those kind of dresses sell...
No way someone like Galliano could be able to handle the pressure and stress of releasing 6 full collections per year for a corporate brand like CHANEL.

BOF mentioned he had been re approached by LVMH so I hope it’s for his own label not Fendi. Time I’ll tell.

Not to contribute to the madness but I thought it was settled he’s going to Loewe? Was I dreaming?
