John Galliano Mens F/W 09.10 Paris

Now with the full collection, I'm liking it more.

The layerings are probably the best part from the show. Never been a fan of his printed t-shirts or sweaters. Very galliano's pirate aesthetics, i know, but just not my taste.

And I've ALWAYS wanting to get a pair of pants or jeans from his collections cause they always looks SOOO good! The foldings/ the pushed-up look of the hem, very nice.

The the closing group of pieces with the sheer neckpiece is something new. gives this collection a certain softness to it, as compared to others which is really harsh, dramatic and literal.

chiffon(or organza?) things looks amazing here!
the dresses are to die for~~~

Hmm. The themes going on in this collection are definitly interesting... and sometimes frightening. I generally am not usually a fan of Galliano's menswear collections but I do fancy the pieces with the big bows.

In two minds. Certainly the best collection in a long time and I'm pleased to see he's eased off with those ghastly prints, but still doesn't quite do it for me. Anyone else think Johns ageing a bit too? :(

I'd say this is probably his best menswear collection to date. The theatrics are toned down just enough, and the editing seems a bit tighter than usual which really helps put the beautiful pieces at the forefront. There are a lot of really great coats and jackets in here like the opening cream one and the grayish velveteen looking one a few exits later.

And the entire closing section of black tailoring with the embroidery and tulle sort of shows John at his menswear best. That's what he does differently from a lot of other menswear designers, he takes a lot of inspiration from womens wear but uses it in an overtly masculine way or shows it in an overtly masculine context. It's definitely fantasy, but it's fantasy I'd love to indulge in.

this collection is amazing
I usually find his stuff un wearbable.
but those coats r 2 die for...i would like
some john galliano underwear as welll

Oh my God! The best menswear collection. I don't know about his inspiration (like old Diablo stories to me), but it very powerful. Totally breathtaking.

It's the same old Galliano that goes tacky on the menswear, but I really like the bows in the end.

definitely prefer the dandy-esque stuff. not sure about the rest. seems so overtly viv westwood.

Wow, looks really cool, so good to have Galliano around. Wish Christian Dior was like that again!

can somebody fax John and tell him that the NEWSPAPER print is so 10 seasons ago?

I like it, better than previous John collections... a lot to choose out of the costume....

Now this is new: the video is already up on johngalliano.com!

I really like the last section, it's truly beautiful. Obviously taken from his main focus on womenswear, but as Spike said, completely adapted to men. The colortone in more muted than it is normally and as opposed to Tim Blanks I don't mind that at all! I have to say though, that apart from the last section, I am not impressed. I don't get what binds this together....the fauns are really random IMO....

Looks just like I expected. Overdramatic and overpriced.
The t-shirts might be, but I can speak for the coats and jackets and stuff like that when I say that they're definitely not overpriced, they're actually really well designed with a lot of little details that are totally lost on a runway.

^^It's true...most of his pieces are extremely beautiful in person, with a lot of attention to detail. There were these pants I remember seeing a while back that had all this Indian embroidery and passementerie around the hem, as well as very thoughtful distressing...I was thoroughly impressed...very striking and unique.

I have to say, I actually kind of like this collection a lot. I'm still sticking with my American Revolution theory...even the satyrs and high-court judges in underwear seems to bizarrely fit into the American Revolution theme...

And the soundtrack is TOTALLY amazing. The contrast between the American colonial-esque clothes and the "Slumdog Millionaire" songs is both twisted, strange and extremely sexy!
