John Galliano S/S 08 Paris

So, I haven't felt the need to comment on ANY show this season, but OMG, WOW. Between his last season and this one, John has offically thrown himself into the mix of cant-wait's for future seasons, along with Balenciaga and McQueen for me.

This is really all so beautiful, definitely the best use of flowers I've seen all season, I'm really in love with this. All of it. This is why I love fashion.

:clap::clap::clap::clap:

While in the beginning Galliano was stunning and beautiful I think his designs have become campy and costume. If it wasnt for the styling and sets you could basically turn on films from the 20's-40's and you would see all the same looks in those films. I think he is a brilliant designer when he wants to be but recently he has done nothing but regurgitate the costume pieces from decades ago down to the hair and makeup.

^^I actually think the opposite! The setting, the music, the make up and the styling make it look more 'themed,' (20's, 30's 40's, etc.) but in reality, the clothes look very well designed, wearable and in fact very stylish! I mean, you break down these outfits and you get really great skirts, mini dresses, sweaters, bathing suits and some really gorgeous evening dresses! And that's my favorite part of this show, that it's gorgeous, fun clothes, but it's a SHOW, it's not just pretty clothes on a runway, it's a SHOW! Watching that video makes me want to get up and dance!

OMG the music is wonderfull but is the original from the show?
I see the CD video and the music sound diferent than the original played in the show

Perhaps Jeremy Healy is making up for a few crappy seasons at Dior with this show cause the music sounds really great.

That little 3 minute clip was the most exciting thing I've seen all season.

^^Jeremy sure has redeemed himself with this show!

I'm sure the music is original...it's too perfect to be NOT original!...it sounds very Galliano.

It really is the most exciting show of the season if not...EVER!!! I'm just SO obsessed!:woot::lol:

I wouldn't say EVER. Galliano shows of past have been pretty great. I just hope this collection indicates a return to form.

I haven't been as excited for a Galliano show since SS05. Hurry up with posting the FW07 video, so we can get to this one!

The uber feminization makes this a grand drag show, that could have taken place anytime from 1890's to 1930's. To me, Galliano is a cult hero. It's no surprise to me, that many, if not most of the posts on this thread are from males. I'm relatively new here (even though I registered in 2002) and hope my comments aren't out of line, but I see him in a certain light. His shows are fun and a really needed breath of fresh air for the industry. I usually have a problem with his rtw collections and feel he's best suited for couture, where he can let his imagination run wild and go as far over the top as possible. I do not feel he has a pulse on what women really want and I mean that in the broadest sense. I don't know if that really even matters, as it really is about his artistry and show and he will have a devoted following. His designs are to me, always a bit fetishistic. He's certainly not alone in that category and there's nothing wrong with that. There are wearable pieces in the collection, but they are so costumey and ultra girly, that it's more of a one off fun item to play dress up in, if you can afford to.

what draws me to british designerslike Galliano and Mcqueen ive noticed they put so much emotion in their clothes that , its like they are their own person (philosophically speaking) , all his clothes are like that . Once you wear those clothes its like , you capture that energy....this is stunning..

I'm wondering if your opinions are based on what's shown on the runway or if you've actually seen the clothes on the rack. While drag show may or may not be a valid argument for his shows (I personally disagree with that sentiment), the clothes at retail aren't, to me at least, some rediculous fantasy of women's clothing. At the core they're things that, throughout the years, women really seem to enjoy wearing.

While moods shift in fashion, there are those things that so many women seem to go back to inevitably, slinky sheath dresses, nipped waist jackets, flirty slips of georgette. So while these things may seem out of touch with how young women are dressing right now (boxy, retro shifts with tomboyish attitude) that isn't always the case. Besides that, his collections haven't always been these super femme affairs.

I'm mostly speaking about this current show, in terms of the drag show, with some reference to past shows. I have seen the clothes on the rack. Typically, you don't see anything from the runway on the rack (Neiman's). What you do find is perhaps a compromise of his integrity, focused on retail. What do others think?

There's a Neiman's outlet near me and I've found a lot of his lower end clothing there.

Cant wait to see the whole video of the show!!! I loved this show!everything clothes, the styling, the venue, makeup/ hair, the attitude of the models, the casting!!!

It's time for Galliano to show some futuristic and modern designs
I'm growing sick of his retros
