KATE BREAKS UP THE PARTY

KATE MOSS is out of action for six weeks after breaking her toe. The 30-year-old British supermodel and fashion icon has been told to rest by doctors after accidentally dropping a glass on her foot. "She was larking around with a friend last week when it happened," a spy told IRISH EXAMINER.COM. "Her pal is a ballet dancer and they were having a good old laugh when disaster struck. They had been partying a bit and, as you can imagine, there were some glasses lying about. One way or another a glass fell on Kate's foot and cracked her toe. She crumpled to the floor in pain and had to go to casualty to get it checked out." (September 7 2004. AM)

Kate Moss Portrait Sells for $191,000
Feb. 6, 2008, 3:45 PM EST
The Associated Press
LONDON -- English graffiti artist Banksy's screen print of supermodel Kate Moss sold for $191,000 at a street art auction in London.
The work, inspired by Andy Warhol's iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe, was one of 75 pieces of "urban art" on sale, Bonhams auction house said.
Many of the works were created with spray-paint and stencils and began life as street graffiti before being transferred to canvas.
"By definition (urban art) is an ephemeral art form, often disappearing as fast as it appears," Gareth Williams, senior picture specialist at Bonhams, said Tuesday. "By transposing their images from street wall to canvas, urban artists are now creating a permanent legacy."
Banksy refuses to give his real name, which has been variously reported as Robert Banks or Robin Banks. The artist, who does much of his work on exterior walls, rarely offers originals for sale.

How depicting Kate Moss as ‘animal’ will make millions

PHIL MILLER, Arts Correspondent October 29 2004

IT is a startling image of Kate Moss, the normally waif-like supermodel, that is unlikely to feature on the cover of any fashion magazine.
Naked, pregnant, and reclining on a rumpled bed, it is an honest image of a mother-to-be far removed from the glitzy catwalks of Milan or the glossy glamour of a conventional fashion spread.
Produced by Lucian Freud, widely considered to be Britain's greatest painter, this honest portrait of the model is to be sold at Christie's in London next year.
Expected to fetch up to £3.5m, Naked Portrait 2002 was unveiled at the auction house yesterday in the run-up to the post-war and contemporary art sale in February.
The painting, almost life-size and full-length, was acquired by a private collector soon after completion. The owner has decided to sell and, as works by Freud are rarely available – and given the subject of his work – the portrait is expected to reach a considerable price.
Freud, 81, is said to have been reading the style magazine Dazed and Confused, then edited by Jefferson Hack – Moss's boyfriend – and discovered that one of her ambitions was to be painted by him.
The model, who was pregnant with her daughter, Lola, agreed to sit for the artist's protracted sessions.
For Freud, the portrait presented a "major challenge" because he prefers to paint people he knows and not professional models. Accustomed at holding poses, models are too often "hardened", according to the painter.
"They've grown another skin because they've been looked at so much," he once said.
"I'm really interested in them as animals. Part of liking to work with them naked is for that reason – because I can see more: see the forms repeating right through the body and often in the head as well.
"One of the most exciting things is seeing through the skin, to the blood and veins and markings."
Moss's verdict on Freud was succinct. "Cool," she said.
Freud began the portrait in 2001 with Moss's then slightly swollen stomach, so as to capture it in paint.
His works are highly coveted and one of the most recent sold at auction, entitled Factory in North London, fetched more than £2m at Christie's in February. The world record for a Freud is £5.8m, paid in 1998 at Sotheby's in New York for Large Interior W11.
Fernando Mignoni, a painting specialist at Christie's, said of the work on Moss: "In this portrait, the slow scrutiny and technique of the old masters meets the world of contemporary fashion, fleeting magazine covers and commercial advertising.
"Freud's art, almost fanatically devoted to the visual appearance of reality, makes a stark and intrusive contrast to the glamour of fame. Exposing everything to a cold all-pervasive light, Freud's fierce, curious and analytical gaze scrutinises the smallest of details."

I really liked his painting of the Queen, as well as his other work. Looking forward to seeing this... :flower:

It's now too late for me to edit this posting, but I managed to find the painting. His style here, both in colours and technique as well as a subject matter really reminds me of the work of Egon Schiele. Even the pose is pretty similar. I'm not going to post any of his work here, for propriety's sake, but just do a google images search. Anyway, here's Freud's take on Kate Moss.

im not quite sure why its set to fetch quite so much

they originally said it would go for 1 million.......and kate was interested in buying it herself

I really like this painting. It's not what I expected from Lucien Freud and I don't like the depiction of the face too much, but the rendering of the body is just gorge and luminous. And Purple, it reminds me of Egon Schiele's style too.

That painting was in her large editorial in"w" mag some time ago....I think it's a different painting that they are unavailing...? but I'm not sure. Also.....I'm going to have to disagree with the notion that it looks anything like egon shiele....his work involves women many times in similar poses (like you mentioned) but his style, medium and overall way of approaching his subjects seems worlds away from freud to me. I am although interested in seeing his newest piece.

Happy Birthday Kate, I heard you had another party.:magic:

PRIMAL Scream star Bobby Gillespie last night rocked supermodel pal Kate Moss at a 70s theme party for her 31st birthday.

His band led celebrations at the glam rock bash with a gig in the barn of Kate's luxury hideaway in the Cotswolds.

Glasgow-born Gillespie, 42, entertained an A-list crowd at the party, alongside other rock legends including Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of the Clash.

Gillespie and wife Katy are close friends of Kate, the face of Chanel. He paid tribute to glam legends T-Rex and David Bowie during the special show at her 10-bedroom mansion.

A pal said: 'It was a wild night.'

Claims of drug-fuelled orgies after her 1920s-theme birthday bash last year made headlines for weeks.
