Long socks over tights

I have seen people at my school wearing long socks (like mid-calf in either black or white) over black tights! Is it just me or is this u-g-l-y? I don't know...what do you think?

i haven't seen this with mid-calf socks but with overknees and i like it very much. especially if you're wearing boots or mary janes with it it looks amazing.
a thing i recently noticed on an asian girl: overknee stockings worn over skinny jeans combined with boots. i loved the look, but i don't think that every woman can wear it.

I dont know about over tights... I guess its kind of a legwarmer look but over jeans is a little silly. We used to do that in the 80's. It's the only look from that time that I think what the... were we thinking.

If so... I wore them all the time as a kid - over tights, jeans, stirrup pants, etc.

no not legwarmers...I mean your average run-of-the-mill long white socks over black tights. I don't personally quite understand the 'look' they are going for, but whatever floats their boat, I guess!!

but if it's worn for example over lacy tights then it can look really good-if the stockings/socks are above the knees that is..

I feel like it would only MAYBE look okay if you had thin legs. I have athletic calfs, so it would probably look ghastly on me.

Ooops...didn't know I was making a fashion F.U.G.L.Y. mistake.... for me, it's a way of wearing my thigh/knee high socks with miniskirts without looking a little sl*tty....

My calves are rather big, so I haven't tried it with two different colors, ala Susie. I'll give it a try though. But I do, do it with some black ribbed socks over some black opaque tights. . . You can still see it's layered because of the two different fabrics though.

I usually wear long black socks over coloured fishnets with short skirts (on my rare skirt-wearing outings) I have done this for ages & seen other people do the same over lace or stripey tights
