Marc Jacobs F/W 07.08 NYC

the details and accessories are great gorgeous and well executed for the show. It's MJ, they definately can asking this quility of samples

The only positive thing I can say about this is that I like some of the footwear, and a few of the accessories seem really nice. Otherwise I think most of this will be unflattering for the majority of people to wear, and I would truly feel like a fashion victim in most of it (and I love YSL).

i like most of it... but it looks dated imo.
it reminds me of YSL and Elbaz...
but I love the hats and hate the op art prints... i already hate it in art so in fashion.....
but the collection is not that bad.

First of all I like the jewellery, whatever other designer it might resemble it's still nice:blush:

As for the rest....

The wool coats just look so heavy! And the rest is struggling to stay above surface too. I really dislike this immensely. Who would ever dress like this?! If he wanted to do 30s at least he could do it well, this is like costumes for a mock 30s period drama on Hallmark:yuk:

I can't believe it, I like it! This is the first time I see Marc Jacobs and think "Oh my God!" instead of "Oh dear God...".
Excuse me, I need to go into a corner and revaluate my entire existence.

Good luck with that :D ;)

It's still not hitting the right note for me.... It just doesn't seem 'Marc' to me. It's Miu Miu, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, anything but Marc Jacobs. I guess I just got used to the last two seasons? Before Fall '06, Jacobs' collections looked a lot different than they do now. But what about his trademark! There's no grunge or layering anywhere!

Now I'm going to look at the accessories....

Oh but there was layering ...

I agree it's atypical, but lately isn't that what Marc is about?

I agree, I think, if anything, his customer is someone who loves fashion and who dresses for other women. The collections, even when they are a drastic change from the season before always reference, in some way, work he's done in the past. He's keeping up a dialogue with the people who love to wear his stuff, keeping consistent elements (brass buttons, zips, color play).

Could it be that they dress for themselves? ;)

yes I think that many of us here on tFS are in this category  :p

This should suprise those who know me and my attitude toward MJ, but...

this is my favorite New York show so far. I love it. :ninja:

I love this collection!
Refreshing from all the cocoon shapes season after season, it's nice to see some different silhouette

I just watched the show on the website and it's magical. One of my fav MJ collection in a while.

Btw, there was a discussion of 80s influence earlier ... I find the jewelry (incl on handbags) very 80s influenced, and I can't see what it has to do with Marni

The video is up on style.com - VERY interesting. These are some key points that came up for those who can't access the video.

Marc: "This was just an interior sort of world...where...you're sort of lonely at the end of the night and everyone goes home and you're still beautiful and you've spent all day taking care of yourself."

Marc: "I am a lonely guy... and there you go!"

I really really like the inspiration and that he in a way goes against the grain going full fledged -sp?- 30s look .. to the hats!!! I mean .. thats gotta be hard try to make women wear them! But ...hum ... its good
