^ Agree on the first reference, but the second not at all, and not too sure of the birds either ... What I thought of when I saw the pins was Elbaz' more recent use of insect pins at Lanvin ...

Thanks for the great shots of the doors ... hadn't seen a clear shot elsewhere.

Interesting to see DVF in the front row ...

wow..this is really uncalled for. overall..i like the 20s/art deco reference...im always a big 20s and art deco fan.
my favs have to be the cocktail dresses around the middle of the show...alot of the black ensembles were great.
i like this minimalistic route..but i think MJ should have done more with the coats in term of the cut. they look like what i can dig up in thrift stores...not a good sign.

lol...this is not 80s...i lived through the 70s and 80s, this reminds me YSL and dior circa 1975, at that time the 20s,30 and 40s were big influences and this time around he did the same but referencing the 30s/70s...
i agree completely...
first thing i thought of ...
my god- he is channelling YSL--where is catherine deneuve...?

:innocent:

*i like the double vest and the draped skirt...
i think it got stronger at the end...
maybe the best eveningwear he's done...
elegant without the usual frump...

imo frump is ok for day...but has no business in eveningwear...:D

After much deliberation, I've decided that I like the idea that this collection presents. I admire Marc Jacobs because, like Miuccia Prada, he can really change the conversation about fashion. However, unlike Prada, I never really find many pieces that stand out in his collections. It's usually just the entire collection that sticks in the mind.

For me, the only pieces that stood out were this cape and dress:

But nonetheless it was an inspired collection. So, bravo, Marc Jacobs.

But I still think your ads suck. So there. ^_^

The obvious YSL references, and the flinty look of the models (I was especially struck by how grim Shalom looked) gave me a strong Nan Kempner vibe. I hope Marc goes back to youthful and pretty soon. Those collections will always reign supreme in my mind.

I love this collection. It reminds me of what Daisy Buchanan would wear.

it's a very good point on the coat! It doesn't seem like he did any breathtaking coats so far based on my recollection. I've been closely looking at all shows but found no coat that gives me the wow feeling Balenciaga FW05 gave me...

Hey look it's someone we know...

His last collection was my favorite & although I expected him to do something different since doing the same sort of collection would be boring, I certaintly didn't expect this! I like it, but it doesn't really stand out to me like some of his previous collections. I always expect a certain quirkiness to the pieces with Marc Jacobs, but I don't get that with these clothes. The shoes & accessories are really dissapointing also.

I just don't know with this, on an individual level I like some of the pieces but the collection overall does have a horribly dated feel to me. There is very little I would wear personally, I think a lot of these clothes would be aging on a younger person.
