indeed. but, in this economy, can they afford it?
I doubt if anyone can say for sure, but they'll certainly want to and that's always proven to be enough with Marc's stuff.

I'm loving that look on Maryna, the yellow pleated top with the grey trousers...very cool, and if you took away the hair and makeup (though I think it's fabulous) it wouldn't look nearly as retro as it does on the runway.

To be honest a lot of what I'm seeing so far doesn't look dated when you zero in on pieces. As a look it's a lot, and very clearly inspired by the 80's NY club scene, but the only two things that are really screaming 80's are the big shouldered stuff and the hair/makeup. And if past collections from him are anything to go by, it'll look a hell of a lot less ridiculous when you see it on the racks.

Enough with the economy! Judge the clothing, not the recession we're in. I'm so tired of hearing about the economy.

Fashion can sometimes be an escape. And there are people out there who can still afford MJ.

Amen!

I love this collection. It's completely Marc. Sure, a little darker, but definitely Marc. He took a trend and completely put his own spin on it. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but when has Marc ever been everyone's cup of tea?

The words of Cathy Horyn

Just arrived at the Marc Jacobs show, with many fewer people. These times…No set or bleachers, just red carpet. Said hello to Andre Leon Talley, who was cloaked in his genuine matador cape.
“Is it a Snuggles?” I said.

does she mean a snuggie?

i like the collection enough.

as for those who say in the economic climate folks want classics and staples, most high end retailers are reporting otherwise. if a woman has a chunk of money to spend, she's more likely to spend it on a smashing dress that speaks volumes rather than a pair of black slacks.

perhaps it's the self-indulgence we're used to, or maybe it's just the evolution of how we shop, but either way, outlandish pieces are flying and the standard LBD (although practical, versatile, and as impeccably made as the heart print PJ-esque pants) are sitting tight.

I have to admit I usually despise Marc Jacobs (and the 80's, if that makes a difference) collections but I am literally HEAD OVER HEELS for this collection!!
The sunglasses I absolutely ADORE and the hair and makeup reminds me of my young teen years. But 10x cooler.
Remember that fashion does recycle itself, but it will always be updated in a more modern and chic way. And in this Marc Jacobs collection I see as proof of that. ;)
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing more 80's fashion this season. It's definitely not for me or for my own personal style, but it makes for a hell of a good show.

Ahahaha :P A snuggie?

I love this collection from all that I've seen-- it is very 80's and ugly at points, but it has this strong tone of confidence and it stays very bold and sexy.
I don't know, I just love Marc.

So much fun, leave it to Marc to bring me this craziness of colour, after almost every subued collection we got from NY so faar.Like someone said, im so sick of hearing about recession all the time, and seeing it everywhere, this is just what i needed.

Can not bloody wait to see this stuff in editorials.
