They aren't following trends. They're creating them.

^so true--they just exuuuude cool so we can't help but think that they are! (or at least thats how i am :P )

They aren't following trends. They're creating them.

Well not completely. As people who have not one but multiple fashion lines, part of their job is to figure out what people want to wear. Sure they don't have to follow a particular trend but they have to find out what people tend to wear.

Yes, you don't want to be trendy as a designer, you want to start them (and they do) but it is kind of 'bull****' when they go to fashion shows and go to luxury stores of all sorts.

I don't believe her either when she says they're not aware of trends and the it items of the season. As emailme said, they're fashion designers and frequently go to luxury stores; they're also part of the fashion and art circles and they know how fashion works well-enough to be able to spot a trend. This being said, I do think they do not dress according to the trends. I've been following their style evolution for a long time and it's pretty obvious that they dress for themselves. They're also more trendsetters than fashion sheeps. Finally, I do believe her when she says that they don't consider themselves "cool".

but what about their personal style. like the boho-thing, MK was the first one to wear it. I know people now say it´s Nicole Richies thing, but it was MK who started walking around in boho.

^Some people give credit to Nicole Richie for that?  Oh dear!

I thought Kate Moss and Sienna Miller both did it before them.

kate started doing it in like 2003, sienna soon after, then mk in like 2004-ish? i wouldn't say she started it, and it certainly wasn't nicole richie either!

Funny, thought the "boho" thing started in the 60's. Now the wonder twins get credit for it? Hilarious.

Yeah, no. It's common knowledge that the boho trend started in the '60s.

chill guys..

I think many people will disagree on who created/revived this trend.. I personally don't think any single person does it but it usually lashes on and manifests on one or a few faces to have them become the face and driving force of it. MKA, Nicole Richie, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller etc being those people of that era

^ exactly. plus they all did it in their own way. sienna and nicole were far more girly with daisy print dresses, vests and cowboy boots. kate was a bit more rock/boho ish. mk was more grungey boho. meh.

i don't believe for one second that they don't know the 'it' items, considering they are often seen wearing them.....

^You're right, I think the keyword to this whole thing is approach. Each one of them had a different approach of that particular style -- which, we all know, was born decades ago; but thanks to some for their condescending reminder :flower:

Now back to the girls, I think Mary-Kate really started getting into that style with that dress she wore to the Charlie's Angels premiere in 2003. In an interview she mentioned it being one of her all-time favorite looks.
