Meisel and Vogue Italia parting ways?

As for Kim Kardashian showing up on another magazine makes me sick. I'm so tired of that family and I'm tired of Kanye trying to make her into a style icon and etc. She brings nothing to the fashion game in my opinion. Only Kardash/Jenner I can kinda deal with is Kendall, but even she gets tiring. She needs to go study fashion and learn facial expression or something. Ugh!

Was it confirmed that Kim shot with Meisel or is that just a rumor???

Instagram Kim Kardashian : Today I'm working with the Queen of glam @patmcgrathreal You guys are gonna die!!!!! So excited!!!!!!

This makes me sick
She's right .. I think I'm gonna die :(

I don't care if she's on US Vogue again .. I just don't want to see her on VI because Vogue Italia is artistic/holy

Ugh, we really don't need to see Kim on another US Vogue cover. I honestly rather have a rehash of an old Anna favorite on the cover then seeing Kim's plastic non moveable face.

Plus when was the last time my Pat did a US Vogue cover? Hopefully it's for W and it's the September issue.

The good thing about Meisel leaving VI for me is that the possibility of not seeing another VI cover with Lexi Boling on it. YAY!!

WOW , it really is the end of an era. I'm from that generation that grew up with Meisel's covers for VI. To me it was some kind of timeless logic . Even though he's work is not as thrilling lately, nobody can do what he did for this magazine and all the iconic fashion moments he created. Yes M&M can deliver great editorials, but Meisel's stories had something that I've never seen in any of their shoots : a message. He produced countless of editorials with a true reflexion and point of view that goes beyond fashion.

I'm happy that he's going to W though. I find itlre exciting than US Vogue because Anna would never give him the same exposure than in the past. I love W and I think Stefano is a brilliant EIC so the collaboration could be really exciting. Besides two of his favourite stylists work there ( Marie-Amelie Sauvé & Edward Enninful ). Yet I'm sad because if he goes to W , that means no more cover stories styled by Karl Templer. All his most glorious editorials were styled by Templer. Also, even if W isn't US Vogue I'm afraid he won't have the same amount of freedom because it's an American publication and because of celebrities. Though, I'm intrigued to see him work more with celebrities.

Without situation the fashion world is moving into a new age. It's weird and sad, especially since it's all a matter of rivalry, ego and pettiness.

Can anyone rewind a little bit + explain how all of this is so confirmed?

Vogue Italia will be nothing without Meisel - it'd be crazy for him to leave + the twitter drama really just hint to him not shooting 1 issue right? Could this not be just a stunt?

I can't sit still in my seat. TOO MUCH!!!

VI was the only issue of Vogue I could take serious in the last time and I'm pretty scared that this will change now. Even if change is not always the worst it is a fact that no one can photograph like Meisel can and I just hope that he will continue to create his unique and magic work at W or whereever it might be possible.

It sucks that this had to happen before Gemma's comeback cover, or even one for Ine Neefs. How this move will affect his power to advance models. Where does that leave the likes of Lexi and Julia? Sure he'll shoot them for edits, but can they count on covers? Will he be able to back new girls from now onwards? And what can we expect from the new VI? Kate Moss booking her VI cover in God knows how long? An exasperating rotation of Naomi, Gisele, Daria & Madonna? I hope to God VI doesnt become M&M's playground. Not a charming prospect! Also hope his standing with Prada remains unaltered.

^ Those are some of my concerns as well, Benn.

Meisel was the only one of the big Vogue's to give new girls a cover. He launched the careers of Daria W, Sasha, Stam, Meghan, Anna J, Daria S, Amanda Murphy, Lexi, Issa and many more just by putting them on a cover.
Vogue Paris, UK and obviously, US are not going to do that. They only give covers to a small group of top girls who've already made it big. Since W Mag is an American publication and mostly features celebs, I highly doubt Meisel gets the freedom to launch a model's career through a W cover cause the sales might be under pressure. Who's going to take VI's place in launching model's careers?

Also, i'm quite sad that some of the new girls didn't get a chance yet to be on the cover. I feel like Julia Bergshoeff, Ine Neefs, Natalie Westling, Maartje Verhoef etc. were this close to getting a cover.

Precisely! He even managed to turn Kate Upton into a star with only one VI cover. I'm most gutted for Ine and Julia. They wouldve gotten their covers sometime this year, I'm sure. The build up in campaigns and edits was certainly there. I can see Julia and Maartjie still getting VI under different photographers, but I fear for the unconventional looking girls like Natalie. They will have an even harder time breaking through because I know of no other high profile photographer who support new girls like Meisel.

This is one of the most troubling aspects of Meisel leaving VI. Because unless VI and Franca continue to choose to be a launching pad for unexpected upcoming faces, there will be far fewer ways to mega-launch a new girl. In fact almost none. This is a huge blow to the modeling industry..no joke. Nearly three decades of Meisel's work, AND Steven almost singlehandedly launched the 'supermodel' movement, photographed every month in the pages of VI. Devastating.

Very sad than Meisel leaves VI  , any another photographer can't do an amazing work like him. Let's hope than the future of the mag will be better & please no Mert & Marcus shoot the covers every issue.

It seems than W, will be better, now than Mr. Meisel shoot great editorials.

Even tho Meisel latest issues have been boring more than unexpected I feel very sad he's leaving Vogue Italia, they launched many models careers, and please NO Francesco whatever his last name is, he sucks! I rather any other photographer, I feel that Norman Jean Roy did a very close work of what Meisel did for Vogue US, not sure for Vogue Italia, and if it is Mert & Marcus be ready to see a lot of Kate, Daria and Lara, there's nothing I can say but RIP Vogue Italia. :(

He's been there for so long, that Meisel at VI is "all I've ever known". I can recall entire chapters of my life by remembering certain covers from years ago.

However, beyond Meisel's cover stories, I don't care much for what gets printed on the pages of Vogue Italia. If the move to another magazine invigorates his work, or gives him greater chance to produce imagery on a par with his previous output, then I'm not sad to see him go elsewhere. I know I'll certainly be following him and his work. That's all that matters to me.

I think Michael Thompson and Mikkael Jansson come very close to Meisel. Like him, they can mimic many different photography styles and classic photographers like Avedon and Newton.

I have no idea what's happening, but I'm curious as to why people think Meisel is above shooting Kim Kardashian? This is the man who dedicated a whole issue of Italian Vogue to Nicole Richie and the other one (I only like Nicole tbh). Furthermore, he did those eds with the girl from Toddlers and Tiaras, Joan Rivers, etc...I think he knows that he can make pretty much anyone look good and jumps on the chance to do it.

He did those shoots when this trashy culture was new, and when the irony of trashy people in Vogue was a fresh idea, never before done... It's old thing now, and coupled with a recent Meisel interview where he expressed a great dislike for the social media world, I think he's over it.

Love both of these as suggestions, although the former is having every last inch of relevance kicked out of him at the Hearst dog house and the latter is experiencing a very, very delayed breakout at every other Conde title.

I really hope that Franca pays attention to the feedback from the fallout and doesn't give M&M an exclusive. Even at their best they have a limited set of stories that they do. At any rate, the magazine is in major need of an overhaul...inside more than out. The dreary "fashion stories" that stretch beyond the cover and the art direction that hasn't been rejuvenated for nearly 20 years....
