If you're the kind of person who likes to put on a pair of pants in a color matching your hat, forget about this bold trend. This is all about being carefree, like you just digged into your wardrobe and threw on whatever you could find. But of course we all know it is a very studied look (although it may not seem like it is). There is absolutely no rules for this!

So you end up pairing things that don't usually match. For example: long gloves over a long sleeve shirt, or a dress over a sweater, a skirt over pants... It can also be prints, fabrics... ... army boots with a feminine dress, evening gloves with a casual outfit. Disheveled, grunge...

Have fun, layer up, bundle up to survive the cold winter weather or just fake it. This is not only about layering, it's about mixing and matching!

What's your take on this trend?

I love this. Hate conventional dressing, find it quite boring.

I'm really diggin' bustier dresses over long sleeved tees. Also the hosiery at MJ and Chloé is quite nice. Very FAME, somehow, but in a less 80's and more chic way.

This suits me fine! Not like I've been all that matchy matchy anyway!

Excellent trendspotting Kimkhuu
This is a trend I haven't really thought about existed and I'm happy to say that I've been doing this for quite a while now, mostly the dress on a sweater thing

I guess you could say this is an alternative to the layer and layer?

I LOVE this

PS I want to give you karma but I have to spread some reputation, how do you do that?

^ Well this is layering going on. Just that this time around, we're layering stuff that do not go together at all (traditionally speaking).

i don't know if this is a trend....
i think it is just ugly marc jacobs collections...:P...

is anyone else doing it?.......

Oh well, while I wouldn't wear pants with a hat of the same color, this disheveled, grunge layering is simply not my taste. I will stick to mixing and matching colors and prints only.

hmmm...am i the only one who remembers vogue calling grunge the WORST trend of the 90's....??

...

^ i know you mentioned it in another thread..when was this? tell all...besides seems so me, like vogue embraces whatever makes them look intelligent

^ Oh well, they can say whatever they want, they're one of the most boring mags around.... :innocent: :P

I love grunge.....

I like this. Although, lots of people at my faculty dress like this and not the majority of them pull it off.

I love the looks on #3.

oh that is what was so funny....
they were the ones who touted grunge as THE trend of the 90's...
crediting marc jacobs with being some sort of genius...

and then at the end of the 90's when everything was dark and minimalist...
they were doing a 'round up' of the best and worst trends of the 90's...
and they called grunge the worst ...
complete about face...

it was very very funny...:P

ah... 1994 all over again. Maybe I should grow my hair out again? I've always liked wearing plaid pajama bottoms under a pair of totally destroyed jeans. I think I'll play some Nirvana now...
