Models Who Aren't That Tall

why is it so important for agencies to lie about model heights, if we all end up knowing the real height?
who are they trying to please or trick? it seems like extra work on their part to even bother with it.

What is the likelihood of growing after 17, has this happened to anyone?

Elle :D

Im 17 and last year I was 5'7'' and as of yesterday I measured right under 5'8'', so anything is possible really. It all depends on when your mother and grandmother stopped growing as well.

^also your nutrition.

It's weird how modeling encourages one to maintain such a low-weight at such crucial ages when your body needs weight to grow. I never understood that, because you're going to lose height and bone density which goes against what they're trying to achieve. I've heard some models say they've lost height by an inch or two in general later on in their career, and i think this is why.

One shouldn't even think of lowering an average weight/size until they are for sure they are completely done growing.

Hmm ... well that gives me some hope :D ... I'm 172cm now, so 5'7.5", and I've been that for a while now ... I'd love to grow even a couple of centimetres but I don't think it's gonna happen! :(
My mum is 5'9" and my dad 6'0 but that doesn't mean anything at all necessarily.

When do you turn 18, candiapple? Oh and btw, hows the modelling going? Are your pics up on Marilyn or Why Not yet?

PS. That's so true, it's_happening. You're a model aren't you? Do you know how much does nutririon effect height, and are we talking starving oneself or simply watching what you eat?

I've been told that your height is more so determined by grandparents...but if this is true my grandfather was 6'8'' and my grandmother was 5'11 so I should be up there(atleast 5'10''). Whats wierd is that when I was a kid I was extremely tall for my age, I was always tallest in my classes and stuff up until 9th grade.

I turn 18 in May(yes freedom!)

Modeling is going a little slow right at the moment but I'm expecting it to get back up and going here very soon :) It was pretty hectic there for a while then it slowed way down here recently...can;t wait to start working again!

If you dont mind me asking, I noticed that you are very caught up about your height, is there a specific reason why you want to be 5'9?

Well my grandparents were 5'4", 5'4", 6'0 and 6'0 ... lol ... so I should be like 5'5" or something ... aaah the whole genetics things is ridiculously unpredictable, who knows! If I grow, I grow, if I don't, I don't, I guess. Lol.
I'm 18 in May too! On the 6th! :ninja: lol

Well, I suppose I am a bit, aren't I? Haha. Whatever gave you that impression?? :p :p
To be honest, I think tall-ness is attractive, and that clothes etc. look a lot better (generally) on taller people, and height also gives one a very statuesque look.
Also, I think part of it is that secretly I would love to model, my height is just one of the things restraining me from doing that.
But yeah, I do think I have this, like, subconcious pre-occupation with height, which is kind of weird. However, it really only developed when I got really interested in fashion ...

Hope this answers your question,

Eleanor.

Keep in mind guys, there are lots of different types of models; though we focus on fashion models here, lots of other types do quite well.

I dated a model in NY back when who was a buyers model at a big fashion house (showing outfits to rich clients and buyers from stores) and did shows (auto and trade shows); she was booked for months at a time all over the country! (not very hard work either!) She was short (bout 5'5" but very built and beautiful...She also, through these contacts, ended up on a major soap opera for many years "married" to a someone who is today a famous actor and ended up living in Beverly Hills married to a big movie producer..Not bad for a short girl! (She never calls me these days, however...)

No reason, I know you had some interest in modelling and was just wondering if tht was the main reason why :flower:

General public, I guess... Those people who buy magazines and read about models in them, but don't care that much to come here to tFS. I guess the people here are not exactly "general public", 'cause most of tFSers have exceptional interest for models and fashion, well-informed about them and often work in the industry themselves.

And if modeling industry ever gives up on trying to fool anyone and to present things to be perfect, it'll lose what it stands on... The power of "image". Then, it'll stop existing.

Yes, I know plenty of people who grew after 17-18... Not by much, though, 1 inch was probably the biggest, but still...

I'm 19 and I'm still growing. When I was 17 I was 5'1 and now I've reached 5'4 and still growing so don't give up hope. It can happen. I was always a late late bloomer and I hated it but eh, now it's paying off ;)

sunshinesoleill... you just made my day!! im also a late bloomer , now i have hopes of growing at least a bit!! ill do some stretching or something! haha thnks for sharing!

my sister stopped growing for a really long time but then when she was 17 she went into an growing spurt so it's possible that you will grow quite a bit more ^_^

i hope i will too...

hey everyone! reading back a couple of pages this seems like a really interesting website.. im just wondering what your experience of growing and growth spurts etc were. i know it varies from person to person but a general idea would be good. I am 15 and 5'7. i have grown gradually to the height i am now, always either tall or average to tall with no real obvious growht spurt, i grew 1 cm these holidays (2 months) but im unsure of how much growing is left in me. my mum and dad are both 5'9.
thanks :)

Hi. You're already above average, I wouldn't be suprised if you aren't taller still in days to come! (This btw, is wonderful; all the tall girls (and models!) I've known hated being taller at your age and were THRILLED about it in later years!) Best of luck to you and get those test shots out to the agencies soon!^_^
