Models Who Aren't That Tall

^^^ I wish it gave me hope as well, however I've basically given up on 5'7 -ish-ish getting much larger. Oh well. I need to move on. Hahah! :p :p

I'm 5'7" too and I probably wont grow any taller but it's more about "the look" that they're looking for. I've accepted my height and I think that a girl who sits around and frets about her height is less likely to be successful in the industry. I also feel that in a business of picking people apart, a model can't afford to be extremely self conscious about height because the agencies and clients will see it. Good luck to any short aspiring models and remember to own your height, don't let it own you:heart:

I agree ^

Do you know why clients would expect this then, it it doesn't make any sense?

what's the point of using a model to glamorize your perfume if later on she's going to talk about how she got osteoporosis for having to remain a certain way during the campaign shooting? doesn't the make the client look like a jerk, thus may make them lose customers?

^also your nutrition.

It's weird how modeling encourages one to maintain such a low-weight at such crucial ages when your body needs weight to grow. I never understood that, because you're going to lose height and bone density which goes against what they're trying to achieve. I've heard some models say they've lost height by an inch or two in general later on in their career, and i think this is why.

One shouldn't even think of lowering an average weight/size until they are for sure they are completely done growing.

i forgot to point out that, contrary to popular belief, it seems to be almost impossible to determine when we are done growing, since everyone finishes at a different time, and in different areas as well.

One can be done growing in breast size and hips, but still be growing in leg or arm length. Does anyone know more about how we do grow in different areas at different periods of time? it never seems to be discussed under normal health guidelines, like in basic phys education courses, but it is so true because i've seen people have stretch marks from this growth activity, or have to buy different size clothing, despite that their weight has not changed.

PS. Do you know how much does nutririon effect height, and are we talking starving oneself or simply watching what you eat?

i totally don't and i wish i did. this is crucial to know, too, becuz you don't want to over-do it, or under-do it in your consumption. Also, i think it's not a matter of how much, it's a matter of how much of WHAT (types of nutrients) effects height. Eating donuts won't effect your height, either way, but it'll effect your weight.
Eating nettle tho, could that help? Nettle supposeduly does something to your adrenal hormone glands, and hormones effect height.

Events like eating even when you're not hunger is important to do, so i've read. But i've also heard that's bad because your body may be rejecting it. Where do we find the truth to this?

to tack on even more confusion, many things we eat are not nutritionally useful for us unless we eat a set amount to achieve the actual bioavailability we need from the nutrition we are consuming. Same goes for vitamins, they aren't useful unless you know for sure how much of the vitamin is bioavailable.

tell me what u think of this:

General public, I guess... Those people who buy magazines and read about models in them, but don't care that much to come here to tFS. I guess the people here are not exactly "general public", 'cause most of tFSers have exceptional interest for models and fashion, well-informed about them and often work in the industry themselves.

And if modeling industry ever gives up on trying to fool anyone and to present things to be perfect, it'll lose what it stands on... The power of "image". Then, it'll stop existing.

That's a negative view of the industry you have, but is it really your's? Do you feel that the industry is really nothing more than a bunch of people trying to fool each other?

Of course, it's mine, who's else would I be stating ? And, no, I don't think that the industry is all about fooling people, but, to some extent, it is. It just can't exist without exaggerations. And I don't think it's a negative view, more like a realistic one.

i would love to grow to 5'8 im like 5'6 now and 14 turning 15 soon. my parents are so short tho. dads only 5'8 ahah moms like 5'2 so me bein 5'6 is pretty good. hope i grow more. katemoss is soooo luckky! and i can never tell adirna limais only 5'7-5'8!

Height has been exaggerated. My cousin is 5'11 (still growing), and yet she still doesn't get a lot of jobs! While I'm much MUCh shorter and a lot of people had asked me to model for them (I refuse though! Modeling is just not for me!). It's more about your style, how you look in clothing (for example, even though my cousin is much taller than me, my legs are as long as hers (look even taller in photos)), and your attitude. Plus, your face is worth a lot too. I was asked mostly because they say I look natural and healthy (don't have tpo starve myself to maintain weight. My cousin eats a lot less than I do but I gain less than she does) There will always be younger models who are willing to work for less, but it's the style, the attitude that makes you becoming a favorite among thousands of pretty-faces. B)

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like height is a lot less of an issue this year on the catwalk? Ruslana and Mona seem to be doing quite well so far, and Emanuela (says she's 5'9 on the Marilyn site, but she says she is "quiet short" in one of the issues of Teen Vouge) has booked quiet a few shows so far. I think the signifigance of height is going down because of the fashion industrys desperate need of something hot... and, thanks to Kate Moss and Twiggy, they realize that the hottest thing may not be 6 feet tall! :buzz:

So what would you say is the average amount of 'added inches'? I would say one and a half to two- it seems to me that all of IMG's 5'8's measure up to 5'6/5'6.5 in reality. That makes me feel good- I am very thin, so I suppose that from now on I can say that I am 5'8 and they'll put 5'9 on my card ;)

i think being tall is attractive. it sort of commands a presence when you walk into a room. i'm 5'5" exactly and i want to be at least 5'8" so i can model. everyone has always said i should model ever since i was about 13 or so, and now that i've delved into the world of fashion, it sounds like it would be fun, tiresome at times, but mostly fun because you get to create something that is beautiful through pictures and presentation.

but..getting back to height. i do think clothes tend to look better on taller girls. in the chanel video of last season (the show that had the screen and keyboard in the background of the runway), you can tell that gemma ward is one of the tallest girls in the show, and the clothes definitely looked like DYNAMITE on her in comparison to the shorter girls. i think an important thing in height is to have most of your height made of your legs and not your torso..

another thing i've noticed...so many models strive to be stick skinny...i've noticed Darla Baker seems to be wasting away lately. and yet, two of the very famous models in the industry, gemma ward and heather marks...are not overly thin. you'd consider them thin but a healthy normal in weight. and they're doing very well in the industry.

this is the link to the video of that chanel show if you want to watch it. i thought they did an amazing job of it. it's my favorite show yet.
