Models Who Aren't That Tall

Tall girls do wear clothes better and the samples made for fashion shows are usually made in one size. It would be much more work to make clothes for models of all sizes, that's why they cast the models according to how they fit into the clothes. I would like to model but I'm not looking to be an exception to the high fashion rule. Kate Moss was just doing her thing and happened to make history along the way..that's what I'm going to do (do my thing). P.s Don't count too much on growth spirts because you'll most likely be dissapointed.

i'm pretty sure i'm going to grow. i was on ritalin for a year for ADD and now that i've stopped taking it, i grew an entire inch last month alone. it is INSANE!

i'd like to be somewhere around 5'8 or 5'9, but if i don't hit that height it won't break my heart. people say i look a lot taller than i am because of the way i'm built. pretty sweet by my book :D

Dunno, as to Heather, but Gemma was quite skinny when she first started out. Her body's become more mature over the last year or so, but now, when she's a star, she can get away with what her body changes to be, easily.

As much as the same size of samples/clothes looking better on taller girls makes perfect sense, girls on catwalk are all of different height as a matter of fact. At least, that's what I learned from the model members of this board and that's what it looks like in the backstage/catwalk pictures. Though, I still have difficulty believing it, sometimes...

And that's true but the height difference isn't usually that much. If hypothetically, the shortest girl on the runway is 5'8" and the tallest is say 5'11" thats 3 inches. I know that we've seen girls like Mona and so on that are 5'6.5" but she is an anomaly to the catwalk..it's still rare and I tend to think the only reason she is so popular for the catwalk is because of her spooky resemblance to Kate Moss.

Not sure how old Heather is but Gemma is still fairly young-- I don't think she's even 18 yet-- but when you're that young, you are naturally thin and it looks ok. It's when you get to be a little older and you still have that adolescent stick figure that it really begins to look odd. Your face begins to look more grown up while you're body is stuck in a time warp.

Gemma is 18 (turned on 2nd of November last year).

I remember there were pictures from Calvin Klein show posted in one of the girls's threads, those from the last minute of the show when all the models line up one after another, and, I remember looking at them and thinking how different all models were in height. I also get that impression from many backstage candids. Sometimes, to the extend that my jaw literally drops down, like this - :o And, obviously, I'm talking more than 3 inches.

However, not being in the industry myself, I can't be certain. I can only guess and hope that my guesses about height not being that much of an issue are right. That's something I want to believe...

I think it's a bigger issue for girls trying to get signed than ones who are already signed (I'm guessing..could be wrong). I hope you are right because I like the idea of smaller models. I still believe that really short girls (5 7 and under) are still rare amoung the catwalks..which in my opinion makes them more special.^_^

That makes sense- Michelle Buswell is 6'2, versus a 5'5 Devon Aoki. Naturally, they are going to look very different than one another on a runway!

I still think that it is hilarious how 5'7 can be called short- Audrey Marnay, admittedly 5'6, talked about that to Vouge. By men, she is considered a tall woman, and cannot wear heels without being nearly six feet tall. I am 5'7, and at fifteen, there are only three or four guys at my high school that I can wear heels and be shorter than. :)

I think there are lots of models that are at or around 5'7 but get bumped up to 5'9, as it is realistic. I am 5'7, and most everyone guesses 5'9 because I'm so thin

This is so true! Its the same thing for me! and just imagine youre 5'11 6' or 6'2 without heels (model or not..) and you wanna go somewhere with a guy, you CANT wear heels! You always have to look for flat when shooping... I dont think this is funny... maybe you could be succesfull as a model but if you dont have the look (face and all that) its a very SAD thing to be that tall... Even for a model... When youre not working, im not sure its very nice to see everyone staring at you because youre so tall... I think there is a middle... And 5'7 5'8 is NOT small! Even for model! I think its good! :)

This point may have already been made but model agencies lie to an extreme on thier books. If a models short they will add an inch or 3 and if a model is very tall they will take some off. I am doing a catwalk in the summer as part of my course and will be looking for a petite girl to model my fits. Its a personal thing I just like the neatness of a garment on a petite girl. I think it has somthing to do with myself only being about 5"5!:D

I think that it is hilarious that the smallest people in an industry usually do the best or end up being the unofficial 'face' of their particular trade, probably because their size is a distiction!

Anna Mariya who exited as Look 1. First sighted last year at a Prada Tokyo trunk show, the statuesque beauty (she stands a true 5′10″) is now the girl with the most buzz… right this minute!

I found this phrase very funny when I heard it...it all but solidifies the belief that more than two thirds of the models listed at 5'10 are below it :innocent:

This is so cool that you're looking for a short girl to do you show. I'm absolutely in love with the idea of that !
If you ever make it big, which I hope you will, maybe, you will set the new trend for short girls. Or, even if you don't, but will just provide work for short girls, that'll be great anyway. I really like it when people do something in a different way, especially in fashion, 'cause fashion always sets standarts everyone is afraid not to make up to. Being different is really brave ! :flower:

same here, I think it makes a difference when designers support the idea of diversity in the modeling industry. I think we'll be seeing a lot more petite girls in the future.

To all those girls who think that magic potions etc are going to make them grow taller, listen up:

Height is determined by many factors, especially genetics and diet. The one surefire way to stunt your growth is to not get adequate nutrition.. so make sure you eat enough and don't starve yourself! But don't waste your money on these books or pills, they are just a rip off. If you're young enough to still have an effect on height, then just eat healthily and let genetics do the rest.
I stopped growing at 14 or 15 (I grew to 5'9" - I was 5'6 by the time I was 12) while Maria Sharapova still grew when she was 18.. so it's different for everyone but basically there's no magic formula for making yourself grow. Be happy with yourself first and foremost.

One thing I would disagree with is the part about dieting. Surely, if you starve yourself, you'll stop growing, but, most of the time, girls don't even become familiar with the idea of dieting before their teen years, when most of the growing had already been done. And, as to receiving all the essential nutrients, although this is very important for the general health and well-being, I think it's effect on growing is slightly overated. In other words, to stop yourself growing, you need to really starve yourself, not just luck some nutrients.

Just my two cents...;)

How tall is Felicity Gilbert? 5'6 or 5'7? I am leaning more towards 5'6 at the moment.
