I wonder what it is so special about Irina that Kate and Pete found in her that they would promote her if she really is as short as the picture a few pages back shows (and in her looks in general)... And, by the way, where is she from ? Greece ? Her name suggests so...
It seems so to me too. Though, the last year was similar. Actually, I even read it somewhere, that the industry's loosening the height thing...
If they really thought so, there would be much more short models than just a few names and they wouldn't need to lie about the height of those models who are below the standarts. Besides, fashion industry has never tried to be closer to people's needs, it has always rather tried to convince people that they must care about fashion. And what exactly do you mean by conventional height ?
Now, Heidi Klum IS famous to the general public who have no much insight into modeling hence her VC contract (now her marriage with Seal also).
Melanie Thierry was sort of famous too I believe, back in the days when she was the face of Morgan (long, long time ago), but probably not as famous as Heidi.
I was slightly shocked to hear Naomi is 5'8-ish...
I thought she was 5'11+ She has VERY long legs. If she really is that short, then her legs are probably the longest in proportion that I have ever seen.
Even more shocked to hear Cindy may be 5'7-ish. Always thought she was tall... 5'10 maybe... or so...
And, by the way, I think that Twiggy is not really a strong example when it comes to successful short models. I mean it was such long time ago... Everything was different...

Models who got conventional height can do great on the modelling industry but they can't be Successfull and popular if you see what i mean ( being a celebrity)
