Most Overpriced Designer?

interesting.. well atleast anthony tried something to challenge their atelier. not everyone is happy selling bags for thousands that costed 60$ to make. or maybe it was even lower for the book tote.
Anthony has repeatly expressed his disdain for merchandising, handbags and logos, and I am glad too he is challenging his atelier, though he is hardly a couturier. He is barely able to design gowns or trousers.

I think what is more offensive to me is the dramatic pricing increases for non-luxury fashion brands (e.g. Khaite, Jil Sander, Nili Lotan, etc). There are a lot of articles and negative news about how the softening of luxury fashion is an indication that the overall economy is not doing well, but it feels a bit specific to retail. The pricing is offensive, even if you have the money.

Even moreso with how secondhand fashion companies have become normalized and it's pretty easy to get nice designer pieces (sometimes current season and/or new) at 50%+ off retail.

I agree that the whole quiet luxury trend is analogous to streetwear in that it does not require any real thought, investment or design to make nice margins. However, as a consumer it's even more difficult to justify spending $1200 on a poorly manufactured cashmere sweater when you can find the same design for $150-300 on Quince—or if you are savvy finding vintage Johnstons of Elgin or another high quality brand. The quality of the lower end of the market has improved greatly while the quality at the high end has decreased... and yet prices have bifurcated further.

He is challenging the atelier on hosiery instead of pushing drapés, plissés or others…
Choices indeed.

Well, on the topic of YSL, I took a look at the new offering for spring and if you are not fast, you might miss this amazing piece of fashion history at the low, low price of 1650€. This "blouse" not only has not a single dart or any shaping, but also not a single curved seam, which might seem like a way to cut corners in production, but is obviously Vacarello referncing Yves interest in the cubic painter Mondrian. What this piece lacks in, well, any design, it makes up with the addition of what is called an "adjustable belt" on the website. If you are confused as to what that might be referring to: it is the piece of fabric that you are able to tie around the "waist" of this shirt. Yeah! Fashion!

while you all droll on about fabrics and construction methods, i'll be wintering in aspen on my YSL snowscoot

Honestly I don't mind the ridiculous pricing for these lifestyle items, even though I still condemn these practices. It's a move from these lifestyle brands to flex their power and accommodate those very few ultra riches who love everything fully branded. One thing is overpricing of basic items like a blouse or a bag, another one is pumping up the price of something more articulated.
Karl at CHANEL was really a master in evolving the brand into a lifestyle cult, even with cringy gimmicks: the hula hoop bag, branded Ipod, table tennis rackets with matching balls...

Kind of obsessed with the "rare" books and records they're selling on the Rive Droit Shop website, because as someone who went through a phase when I bought a bunch of those books from eBay... if you're patient, you can just wait and you'll find a seller who'll list them at a decent price.

How dare you attribute to Mondrian what is clearly an hommage to Leo Tolstoy belted shirt "tolstovka" ?
How dare you ignore the inspiration from Yves' precious and ultimate masterpiece that was the Russian collection and the devotion Yves had for Russian literature ?
How dare you ?

This is simply not for you, and should be priced 3300 € instead 1650 €, just to avoid ending in the hands of people like you, who can't recognize Maestro Vacarello's subtility in referencing Maestro Yves' genius.

Oh, how once again, I proof to be nothing but a peasant, so dreadfully uneducated, to not understand a grand couturier like Vacarello, who always dances of the lip of the volcano with his expressive and subversive designs! Clearly, I was blinded by the sumptuous cotton fabric, to think that I would be able to correctly ***es such a piece of postmodern art! I am not worthy of what will go down in history as one of the direction-changing pieces of clothing design.

It's ok, forgiven, it's not Alexander III peasantry anymore. Just be glad they did not use child labour for for more authenticity.

Anyone looking for a 300+ Eur Prada leather wallet with misaligned plaque? Actual images from the official website.
This one is 320 Eur:

I'd be surprised if these items cost more than 10 Eur to be made. Why would someone spend so much money on such low quality items? We're not even talking about some hidden loose thread or uneven stitching on the back of some garment, the plaque is the most noticeable element of the wallets and the main reason people buy Prada in general! Just shameful.

We have reached a point were fake brand items are better made than real ones...

there's a guy on tiktok who takes apart leather bags to determine their quality (his name is tannerleatherstein). he bought a prada cleo from a resale site and it was so cheaply made he thought it was a fake. but it was later verified by several people as authentic. the resale site said a lot of the problems were issues a lot of prada bags have. i always check his account before i start looking at any new bags.
