New York Fashion Week Schedule S/S 06 September 8-16

I dunno,I think a protest could send a strong statement to the community...that is if one got together a major group of people.

i worked for tess giberson in her first season, she truly has design integrity and is willing to develop her skills to enhance her work. i once inteviewed for a job at cloak when they just started, havent spoken to alexandre (the designer at cloak) since but he seems to be doing some very interesting stuff, i am not too much into libertine as they are a recusomising (thrift store finds) brand.this whole celebrity cum designer thing is a joke, take for example zaldy, he has been in nyc for ages, doing really great work, at one point he went bankrupt because no one was supporting him and as soon as he became head designer at lamb everyone wants a piece of him. i mean, he is a great talent, but why should his association with gwen stephani (whom i like, the only one of all the celebrity designers because she has a style of her own and was willing to give zaldy his due amount of credit for the line) have to show this to everyone when he's been around for years.

That's very cool your worked with Tess her first season! One of my absolute faves actually!!

The thing about Libertine is,they actually are probably better than what I've see in this epidemic of re-working. I love their style, mostly;dunno,if I'd actually buy into any of it.

Interesting--I see Marc Jacobs has moved out of the line of fire--no longer the first major show, right?
I think that it is timing concern. The show will be delayed anyway so just push it to the last one...and then have a party right after that. Sounds good!^_^

Oh Zamb, that's a really good point. Tess Giberson,Libertine,Cloak and Rachel Comey are really the only ones with any valid success. Yet,still, they're being overlooked and underappreciated.

Tess G is getting a teeny bit of attention, her photos are up on Style.com at least. I still agree, she is underappreciated. I still haven't seen Rachel Comey's Fall 2005 collection yet, only a few pictures from the after party on Getty images  And Aloha Rag dropped the line :cry:

:woot: You have to write in the Tess Giberson collection threads when they are posted then, please? I would so love to hear your comments. Big fan here

Actually, if you really want a protest, I would protest against J-Lo opening her own store. With that opening, there is a fashion show, so you hit two birds with one stone!

Well, partly due to the fact that her most recent were slightly more commercial than before. I still say her strongest was her earliest works. Some of the most inspiring things I've seen from a NY designer. And that's saying ALOT! ;)

Can't believe Aloha dropped Rachel. I was always under the impression that her pieces sold rather well on there.

if a protest is going to be done it has to be done properly, so that it is taken seriously' the worse thing possible is for a protest to be done and the protesters seem like a laughingstock. it would be nice to get some serious peole involved.
also focus on the problem and not the personalities as it should never come off as a publicity stunt to draw attention to another agenda

Only 1% of the "designers" on the list can keep me interested in this event....

Im not sure on how to pull off a protest, but it seems that a few people here would be in for it. I think the only way to get us, independent designers, to ever get any notarity for our clothing is if we step up against the industry that we true artists love! Its hard to be such a tiny fish in a huge pool of fashion baracuda's!! I would love to stage a protest, a sitting, or just create a buzz about how people in the industry dont want to see such nonsense of celebrity fashions. Its true it sells and that because television has poisoned the brains of most Americans. Reality TV runs in the American blood stream! its all about Paris this, Paris that and oh my god Brittany is pregnant. Who gives a flying $#%^. So now that everyone is obssesed with the "American Celebrity" the celebrities are cashing in more so by creating these mega companies in there own names. Guess what america, these freaks dont design a dam thing! Andy Hilfiger runs the J-lo brand not J-who?
Its just so darn sad to me that this is what Americans want, and will buy! maybe we shouldnt protest the show but the buyers of these collections? The department stores?? Maybe we should protest everyone involved. I mean how much fur and animal skins did MS. J-who use in her show! Im sure PETA would be into it! The looks of her show just looked like replica's or knock off's of well known designer outfits that she wore herslef!! Way to be different J-who!

I worked for a short time with Miguel Adrover on his last collection before he was smart enough to leave this fashionless city of! Working for him was a dream I had when I was in university. I was honored to be in his studio along side him and seeing true artistry and independent thinking put into a fashion presentation. It was in his home that all the interns and seamstress' would create his unique, politically infused works of art. That is true fashion! He atttemted to ressurrect his company back to the fore front. For me he never left that fore front. The rest of the fashion community destoryed him for being creative, to them he was nothing after a time of being NY'c fashion star! Miguel was right when he said that this city does not understand fashion! Its so difficulct for an artist to be a designer in this culture. Its a shame that he was driven out because he was one of the few that actually said something with his clothing instead of; "my collection is designed for the girl who meets her grandmother in the Upper West Side for lunch!"
....so how do we do it? How do we make a statment that tells the media and the fashionably boring that, HEY WE ARE THE DESIGNERS OF TOMORROW and WE ARE STANDING HERE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you should forget about the general public and just concentrate on your designs and hope that it will strike a note with someone... or you can pull the old PETA trick on ms. vintour.

a downloadable calendar is up at olympusfashionweek.com...

i have a feeling the gwen stefani affair is going to be great...she's the only "celebrity" designer whose clothing is actually quite fashionable...

looking forward to marc jacobs, narciso, calvin, roland mouret, and mary ping...

from today's wwd...beyonce's show may not happen after all:

September's New York Fashion Week will have to go on without Beyonce. Back in January, the singer-actress-designer and her mother, Tina Knowles, co-creators of the House of Deréon collection, said they were "definitely" going to have a fashion show to launch their spring collection. But now plans for a show — or even an off-site "presentation," which the show had evolved into — have come to a screeching halt. A spokesman for the company said, "There was never a confirmed presentation. We were just holding the date. However, we're really looking forward to the first big House of Deréon show during fall fashion week in February."

the fall shows should be interesting...p.diddy is also planning on showing womenswear then...

thank goodness or free markets ... no conspiracy fur for peta here!

good riddance , we dont need the house of (delusions) dereon during new york fashion week
