Life & Style is also weighing in with its own version of
the Nick & Jessica breakup story.
And like a good battling tabloid,
L&S claims its scoop is much steamier, juicier and filled with more Jessica crying that
Us could ever muster. Let's see how well it pans out.
Begins the L&S item:
A pretty blonde was crying on the shoulder of a friend on a recent American Airlines flight from New York to LA, bemoaning the breakup of her marriage. It happens all the time. But a fellow first-class passenger must have been stunned to discover that the blonde wasn¹t some anonymous girl ‹ it was Jessica Simpson!

The witnessed outburst is particularly shocking because Jess is rarely seen without a smile plastered on her face. But the insider reveals that a day before the flight, during a Sept. 27 phone conversation with Nick, she received heart-breaking news: He said he wants out of their marriage! ³Nick told Jessica that it¹s obvious their marriage isn¹t working, and they can no longer sweep things under the rug,² saysthe insider. ³He¹s fed up with not being able to trust her, with her constant partying, how much money she spends and who she spends her time with.² Jess, 25, told a friend that she begged Nick, 31, to reconsider and even told him she was willing to start a family right away. ³You¹re in no condition to start a family,² Nick snapped, accordingto the insider. ³It¹s over.² (Nick¹s rep denies this.)
If that
Sopranos chic can't make it work, how are Nick & Jessica supposed to?
Two of their closest friends, Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn DiScala and her husband, A.J. ‹ who sometimes counseled Nick and Jess on how to cope with their difficulties ‹ recently split up after two years of marriage. ³The split really affected Jess and Nick,² says the insider. ³Jessica saw their marriage as ideal. When she heard they were splitting, she said, ŒIf they can¹t make it work, who can?¹² A.J., who has denied reports that he cheated on Jamie-Lynn, spends a lot of time clubbing with Nick. At the Stuff Style Awards at LA nightclub Mood on Sept. 7, ³they drank together all night, watching girls dance and hanging out in the VIP room,² says a friend of A.J.¹s.
