Numéro 97 October 2008 : Stephanie Seymour by Greg Kadel

greyeyes, your last post its actually from Another magazine fw 2008 by Mark Segal...

Stephanie ROCKS!!! All people who said it is bad must be blind;)) The new underaged models can never have even half of Stephanie's sexappeal! She is an ICON. The rest models that Numero uses are like dead dolls! Stephanie stands out! The cover and the editorial are fantastic! I will definatelly buy it! Finally a good model on the cover! The established models are always the best chouice for every magazine and Greg Kadel has always been amazing! BRAVO!

But how exactly do you expect new models to become established if magazines isn't using them?

^ exactly - It doesn't make sense to criticise new models for the lacking the qualities they haven't had time to develop.

Yes Stephanie etc have not always been supermodels either but people always forget that.

Stephanie is truly a supermodel! And none of the models of today can equal her or any of the supers from the 90s! It was such a great era for models!

good question! Well, magazines are using the new models TOO OFTEN. Nobody can complain that new models do not get enough coverage...they just do not have the charisma to become what the established supermodels are already! It takes more than a pretty picture to be a supermodel. The old supermodels set the trend and left high standarts, which most new-commers can never reach! How can you expect a teenager to have a charisma? Sometimes fashion looks like child p*rn, it is horrible! They need years to become supermodels and also a lot of personality, which they seem to lack. I do like many of the new models, well, not exactly new, cause Anja Rubik has been around for a long time...there are certanly a lot of girls with potential, but the established models were on top of their game for more than 15 years. Maybe that's what is takes to be an established model. There are too many magazines, campaigns and shows these days, so everybody can get enough amazing work for their portfolio, but they will never have the carachteristics to be really TOP. After all we, the fans and the admirers and consumers will never get to decide which models will be used, we can only witness what is happening! And express opinions! Which can be fun;))

This is quite an exageration. I think supers do not even have 1/5 of what new models have even today. Look how long they were given time and space to rule the fashion world... and what happened for last 15 years we've got only one supermodel Gisele... fashion world with Gisele looked quite desperate... she was getting everything... and still is doing quite a lot... I have nothing against her and appreciate her contribution and really think she should keep going... than we've got Kate Moss hysteria... before supermodel comeback, which is hardly full, the problem was obvious great jobs were going mainly to Gisele or Kate or maybe Natalia V and Angela L... it was obvious that there was a big crisis... and i think there is no reason to blame supermodels

Yes, not to go too off-topic, but all these new girls do the same "I'm a humble little charmer who loves my Mummy's cooking and would never do the fast-life, not ever, this is all so fleeting!" act. They get the major visible contracts or are simply *everywhere* (like Natasha P.) and do little more than show up on set and leave. You can't tell me girls like Raquel and Daria haven't had centuries (in fashion time) to become a real super (not the diluted version we have now). That Hilary and Doutzen are so all over the place that they should be on the cusp of greatness.

They don't want it (and Daria has said this explicitly). That's fine but fashion can't thrive solely on beautiful ticket punchers so I don't think we should complain when others hunger for models with unbeatable presence and fame. Especially when they look as gorgeous and powerful as Stephanie and Naomi (and Gisele when they channel her sculptural aesthetic).

And also don't forget that we live in economically difficult period... it is quite common that many brands hire supermodels to raise their sales and it works... same with magazines... probably supermodels like Stephanie, Linda, Naomi, Kate, Eva, Christy and possibly Helena and Cindy sell magazines better... that's it.. for many people who are not very much into fashion it is easier to spend 5 or 10£ for a beautiful picture of a supermodel or some celebrity who they find interesting and to whom they are attracted...

wow, that was very well-said!!! Exactly! But the media is making the models to have the supermodels status and we can not blame the new supermodels that they are overshined by the first generation of supermodels.
Daria is a true supermodel, Carmen Kass, maybe Karolina Kurkova, Fernanda, Adriana, Frankie,Anja Rubik,Malgosia,Karen Elson and many more which are not from the Linda,Naomi,Cindy,Christy,Helena,Claudia...era...the problem is that fashion changes so fast these days and there are alsways so many new models, that we do not have the time to get used to...and maybe it is also true that the new models just do not want to be labeled supermodels. They actually are!!! No matter what! All the models who get the best jobs, the major covers and the big campaigns ARE THE TOPMODELS. The problem for me is that too many so-so models get major campaigns and covers and editorials...they are much more privileged these days and get the best jobs too soon. They do not have to wait for apporoval, it all happens too fast, but what's wrong with it any way!

Exaclty getting Chanel or Versace or YSL was a big thing... now it is all underestimated... it's has an effect of scorlling down a page so quickly that you don't even notice anything... everyone should get job and there should be fplace everyones love and hate;-)))

Wow, I really second that... that's the reason why Naomi made that statement saying that the last true supermodel was gisele (wich is also questionable) and that nowadays the label is just being used at will... daria was the last model to make a big splash, but it was not even close to the supers, or gisele (who is far from the supers), or karolina (who is far from gisele)... anja rubik?! how many vogue covers does she have? or W, or V? I remember gisele got the title because she got the cover of US vogue, W and HB all at the same month, not considering ads for dolce, dior and goes on...for me they are topmodels and that is it... not supers, not ubers... models who do a great job, but can't beat the celebrity or the supers competition

wait, wait, wait!!! Chanel, Versace and YSL have always been represented by the big names among topmodels, so there are still rules that nodoby can break;)) Thank god;)) Though I like to break rules.

Does every magazine thread has to be polluted by supermodel discussions? -_-

YES!!! That's the most interesting part of it all! We can buy the magazines any way, but the supermodel discussions are the reason why we all are here! There would be no fashion and magazines without the supermodels and this is not "pollution".it is quite the most natural outcome! Why are you using a photo of Eugenia on your avatar any way?

^^ Isn't that a gross exaggeration too, taben?;)

Well, uhh, how about those editorial previews? Siri again? Lawks!
