Olivier Theyskens - Designer

Talk about sucking the life out of the room.
People keep saying they want Olivier Theyskens at a big fashion house, but when he actually gets a major role, they start complaining. Which is fair—everyone’s entitled to their opinion. But at the same time, you all want him to get the recognition he deserves, yet when his work is worn by a huge pop star in a video and song that’s actually getting traction, it suddenly becomes a problem because the pop star is not worthy of theksens. It’s very silly. If you want him to stay a niche designer making beautiful eveningwear for independent actresses, just say that.
The only place I could see him at is Lanvin and he seems pretty content with the freedom he has now to do what he wants.

uh no, since he departed NR, I've never said I wanted to see him at a big fashion house or to 'get more recognition', if you've followed fashion long enough, you know he is respected by anyone who cares about design, he's a middle-aged designer who's been around for ages, the people who make him sound like an underdog waiting for his big break and who are obsessed with envisioning him at a big house as if he had never been in one... not me! lol. Like I said, good on him getting the money from this gig.. the 'huge pop star' makes subpar music and has a terrible personality though! the two can coexist...

He is kind of a soft spot of mine… I would like to see him somewhere tbh. I kind of miss that kind of poetic, delicate, nostalgic and romantic approach of him to fashion. Sheer layers, feathers, transparencies, lightness… He also has a fantastic eye for color.

I know it’s hard that his approach becomes successful business wise, but still.

^^^ Apologies for inflaming the TFS little monsters LOL But that red outfit in her video is a blatant variation of the Theysken gown madonna wore in 98! (Like a great man once said: I like some of the Gaga song… But she is really gross.)

It’s such an odd and interesting need for some that their fav designers must be in a powerhouse label or fabled house. I suppose it’s no different than stanning one’s fav pop queens to have the number one single and gross the mostest in revenue.

I’d plea for some billionaire to invest in the Theyskens brand and allow him to mix and match his brand of dreamy concoctions of Nina Ricci with his pragmatic leather sportswear of Theory. In the meantime, of course everyone needs to make a living and even take on jobs working with employers that are insufferable/obnoxious/gross. And it’s no different for Olivier here LOL

Oh interesting because when I saw the dress she wore to the Grammy, it looked like OR vintage. I think it’s great for him.

Everytime his name is mentioned, it’s always rooted in this irrational nostalgia. So to finally have a current project from him is good.

She needs to wear his designs often this year. I want that for him. It could help his business.

And at the same time, he represents that old idea of what Avant Garde meant and Lady Gaga is also about that pastiche idea of Avant Garde. The Tik Tok crowd may connect to it and it could bring some editors to his showroom (if he has something to present).
