Oscar De La Renta S/S 08 NYC

It's, generally, a little too ladylike for my tastes, but for what it is and for whom it's aimed at, it is superb! :D

Superb, very signature, the truly most elegant so far  (rather than Raulph's pastiche - mimicking luxury ) ....

the only one IMO that could have taken the Valentino house in full force.

How lovely and elegant...it's almost ageless. There seems to be something here for everyone, yet it's so perfectly coherent.

Exactly! Not the change in venue folks, the fact that Oscar isn't excluding all but the 'ladies who lunch'. He has stayed true to his central P.O.V. but he has also invited modernity and ease to the soirée . There is something here for women of all ages, I think.

My favorites pts. of the collection are the tribal pieces, naturally. So lovely and inspring. Wish that cropped jckt. was 1/5 the price it will inevitably be.

Bravo Mr. De La Renta

I don't usually like ethnic details, but this is amazing! :woot: But it makes me want to cry ... I can't afford any of it! I want Stam's mudcloth dress so much.

This looks sooo much better than his last collection, which sucked. This collection is much more artistic and looks like he actually spent some time doing it. What I dont like is the fact that it looks like an identical copy of Chanel/Valentino. It may be beautiful but far from original.

Good consistency. Not exactly my cup of tea, but a stylish line. I always feel like his lines are meant for the 5th avenue ladies who have brunch.

I love the most of it. Except for the first dress in post #29.
Very wearable and elegant/chic

i loved all of his previous collections and this one is just gorgeous!

Mr. Dale said exactly what I was thinking. There's an intangible something that makes this seem so much fresher then his usual fare, and I'm certain it's the overall presentation.

Sure the clothes are beautiful, they always are, but here they seem a little more special then usual.

I'm seeing a few little missteps here and there (like the way that green dress is cut just above the ruffle--looks too tight), but overall it just seems spot-on perfect, polished, details right, smooooth ... It is impressive, Oscar is right on top of his game ...

Btw, I was looking at the Oscar boutique here recently, and the clothes are pretty darn impressive in person too.

[Can't help a little mental comparison with MJ here :innocent: Granted, Oscar did not have to film the models in their underwear ]

I usually don't like Oscar De La Renta's collections. They seem too old womanish for me. But I liked this. I would wear most of it. I especially liked the tribal designs.

Very Chic and Sophisticated. Typical Oscar De La Renta. If he doesn't keep it up who will dress the power women of today?

I guess non of us can judge this collection unless you were there looking at the fabrics eye to eye

There are a lot of references to many designers but in his own simplistic way. its as if hes trying to show that minimal is always better that crazy patterns that one would find in a Valentino. As a Balenciaga mentor, he obviously has the old Balenciaga style. It should had been him who should had taken over the house right after Balenciagas decision to close his house in the 60s. ;)
