Gucci S/S 08 Milan

I know i've been guilty of it in the past but everytime there's a new Gucci collection everyone seems to bring up the Tom Ford era. I think we have to move on from that..and try to see this objectively. This collection is a bit hit and miss for me

Well I'm bored........

I like some of the plaid, and the shoes are cute, but eh. Overall I'm really unimpressed.

I like the collection.

the main problem is that the name is GUCCI. And the collection goes against Ford's aesthetics.

Right now I hear the sounds of Gucci going down the drain.....WTF?

Gucci's become cute:rolleyes:
and i actually like this collection. i love all snejana's outfits:heart:

Is it me or does that yellow evening dress look like the ones in the Givenchy fall 07/08 HC show?

she has accomplished her goal of making the brand more accessible but by widening the appeal, her collections have brought tension to the table as gucci under ford really played with varying levels of accessibility and exclusivity. the woman frida is designing for is decidedly younger and her taste is in limbo, transitioning from a sugar sweet into something more sophisticated, holding a foot in both places as it were. it still feels too much like a knee jerk reaction against tom's p.o.v. when she tackles a bit of the masculine/feminine, it seems authentic but overall, there's too much there to distract from her strengths.

pink dress is a knock of chloe's orange one from fall lol

Yeah, Snejana's pink dress does remind me of that Chloe dress also. Nothing spectacular about this collection. There's too much yellow and black on the dresses :yuk:

Aside from a handful of dresses, the collection is disappointing. I just don't understand what's wrong with Frida? Why present a collection that's basically an extension of the resort show?

Eek. Another tasteless, tacky collection. But it's Frida; what did you expect?

No one can achieve what Tom Ford did for the label, but come on, Frida-- can you at least give us something decent for Gucci? Please? Is that too much to ask?

Apparently it is.

i think frida is rapidly changing the customer to react to new markets. That is probably why she was highered. The Tom Ford aesthetic wouldn't hold as much weight in today's market. Andrigyny is not treasured (from my limited understanding) in Asia, India and the Middle East. These are the largest areas for luxury good growth . Brands like Louis Vuitton and Chanel carry lots of weight in Asia. The Gucci si aesthetic was only working with westerners.
