Oversized bags - yay or nay? Discussion

agreed...at 6ft tall w/o shoes .....i look ridiculous with small bags...i love the oversize trend!

ditto to that-

I'm 5ft 11 and have a penchant for heels-

I love being tall- but tiny bags look ludicrous on me.
Even for evening- I try to find the absolutely hugest clutch I possibly can

yes, that could be quite the travesty. i dont think this layering trend is friendly to the trendy inclined. it is definately something you have to think about in the styling process, rather than being able to just go out and buy into the trend.

for me in the meantime, im knitting big marc jacobs-like hats! they're my favorite thing off of his fall runways!!!
that's a good idea actually.... a big knit hat... i have one a friend knitted that i might try to wear... this is all very bold stuff for me though...

i'm sure our lovely statuesque members are going to rock this trend though... i think a big bag with jeans, boots and a chunky sweater is a pretty fabulous look actually... thing is...i don't even wear jeans......

^you're right....i would look ridiculous with a small bag because of my height. my sister's are 6'0 and 6'2 and carry small bags, it makes them look awkward.

I think a big bag with sweaterdress and some chunky knee boots would be a great fall look too!

i too like the oversized bags - im like 5' 7" so im not that tall but big bags work nicely in terms of proportion - i never stuff them with a lot of things and keep them light - am looking into getting one for the fall.

another look that you need some height to pull off...^_^...
but yes- another good one...

:flower:

awe, you need height to pull off sweater dresses?? :(

i love a lot of the big bags, and i admire them on people.. but on me they don't work so i don't use it.. or try not to unloess i need it for travel and school and lugging huge things around.

haha i was trying to convince myself to buy some huge bags but just couldnt do it

It's a big nay for me ... I don't want Birkin elbow, for one ... don't like the look, for two ...

Like SUVs, there are people and purposes that really do need the capacity (you could use a lot of these as a diaper bag, for example ;)), but in general ... if you need a huge bag, half the time what you really need is to get organized.

^ what's a birkin elbow? :p
im assuming it's.. sore elbows from big bag??

Yup, like tennis elbow ... I read this term in an article in a fashion magazine ... I believe the author had a Kelly and a Birkin, had dreamed of owning it for years (), and when she got it, she couldn't carry it. That's a pretty expensive decoration for your bedroom

I adore bigger bags. There is, however, a limit to the size... but in general, I love medium-to-larger sized totes.

I know if I have a larger bag, I carry it by the handles... :innocent: Whether that's proper or not, I don't care. ;)

I choose the size by the bags' purpose, not by my size. Otherwise I had to wear minibags that can't even fit half of what I need :innocent:

but anyone who has one will tell you the same...

i just held it on my lap and stroked it gently...

while i understand your train of thought, sometimes some of us have weird "gotta have everything at all times" ideas in our heads and NEED a big bag. for me personally, i use my big bags at school, which i am there almost all day. i need to carry my lunch, sketchbook, notebook, and water...and then usually a jacket/sweater since i am there until late at nite. sure i could leave it in my car, but since my classes are lined up in a row with 10 minutes inbetween, and parking is on the other side of campus, big bags make everything much easier. i am a art student and so i always have a bunch of art supplies on me at all times, because most of my classes are studio. i am super organized, but even that wont help me if i NEED to have supplies, food and something to keep me warm with me.....

I think it comes down to this: If you like it, wear it. If it's practical for you, great, if when you look in the mirror you think 'I look great!' at the end of the day, thats all that matters. If someone else thinks, she doesn't look so hot, what does it matter? Your the one who has to look in the mirror.

that is geometry and is obviously relative to the size of the individual...
there is not way to answer that question without specifics...:p

but i think it's a 'visual' thing that isn't really THAT hard to see...
at least not for me anyway...
if you have a good sense of space and proportion...you should be able to tell...:flower:

Wise words, Softgrey. I agree completely. I am petite and carry medium to small bags, mainly because I hate it when they are too heavy. I carry money, keys, mobile, compact and lipstick. Doctors say it is very bad for your back to carry 3-4 kgs on one shouder only.

Well said Meg, I could not agree with you more:D

Yup, that's what I was saying ... some people really need them ... you do, I don't ;) It makes a difference if you have your car, desk, etc. as staging areas ... I imagine you probably don't have any personal space other than your bag when you're on campus ...

I carried a bigger bag than I do now when I was a student, but it wasn't huge ... big enough to fit a water bottle and a paperback along with all my other stuff ;)
