Beatle gets desperate... Sir Paul McCartney has issued a gagging order against an old friend of his first wife Linda, Peter Cox.
The reason for the order is that Cox has 15 audio tapes that contain Linda McCartney’s secret diary that could possible thrown a new light on their 29 year long marriage.
Macca has threatened to take Cox to the high court unless he agrees in writing to never make the tapes public.
An insider said of Linda’s tapes to the Mirror: “They’re dynamite. Linda begins to unburden her troubles and the tapes become an audio diary.
“It’s a private and emotional confessional. She vents feelings which she’d not dared share with even her closest loved ones. She found the tapes cathartic.”
The move from Macca came after his lawyers realised that his estranged wife Heather Mills could use the tapes against him in a divorce battle.
Linda and Peter Cox wrote ‘Linda McCartney’s Homes Cooking’ together in 1989 as they became close Cox spent more and more time with Linda at her family home in Peamarsh.
Now, Cox is a literary publisher and holds the only remaining copies of Linda’s tapes. If he is sub-poenaed by Heather Mills, Cox could find himself in court as a witness for her.
The insider added that there was no love lost between Macca and Cox even when Linda was alive: “Peter never got on with Paul. They rubbed each other up the wrong way.
“Even after Linda’s death, there was no thawing of relations. Peter was rankled he wasn’t invited to Linda’s funeral. He’s never forgiven Paul for that.”
Could Peter Cox ruin Macca with his secret tapes?
