Pieter Mulier - Designer, Creative Director of Alaïa

i bought the apricot bodycon dress on Nora 2 yrs ago but it wasn't a keeper and didn't stay in my mind long enough. The col fit was off.
but I do like his recent use of bleu azur and his recent asymmetrical draped dresses, they seem the right balance of architectural & practical, more fluid.

The new Alaia store is beautiful but in a very bland way that would work with any generic brand at this moment, but I think Alaia is more than that and has characteristics like the above Schiaparelli 21 Place Vendome store. It is so sad that most fashion stores/boutiques nowadays are very similar is a bad way that Pieter's stores just lack the intimate atmosphere and personalities that make a brand like Alaia so special to the women the designer loved.

The new Alaia store is closer to Alaia’s aesthetic than the Schiaparelli store.
Maybe the greatness of Alaia is that he loved contemporary art, great design but wasn’t trying too hard about it.
The new flagship maybe lacks colors but if you look at Alaia’s house, his bedroom and even the little rooms he turned into a hotel in his house, it’s very much in this contemporary nature.

He loved extremely modern things and was very influential in bringing Pierre Paulin back.

Oh I have just realized it's the former Lanvin Homme flagship across the historical Lanvin (femme) flagship, Hermès Faubourg ofc and a very very boring Cartier one.
I loved going there. And I loved the mens tailor ambiance upstairs.
How could they afford this location ?
Alaia's owner, Richemont, is the second biggest luxury group in the world. They're probably expecting for the store to operate at a loss for the first few years before it becomes profitable.

I know Richemont has deep pockets but this 100m€ + investment is a huge shift in strategy. They are starting to invest in their fashion brands, because for a while, during Covid and the following rebound of luxury spending, they gave the impression they did not know what to do with their fashion branch - split, sell, buy another - and now they are deciding to investing massively.
I wonder what are their plans for Chloé then ?

Plot twist: he leaves Alaia to join Blazy at CHANEL as head of design studio...the new Virginie under Karl!
LOL
May not be the most popular opinion, but at this point Mulier is my favorite designer from Raf's inner circle. He certainly is better at womenswear than Raf (helped make things more feminine and lively at Dior), and his use of color, drape and volume is more refined than Blazy's, which sometimes tends to look elaborate for the sake of it. Blazy is obviously younger and managed to get several major positions earlier in his career, but Mulier has a lighter touch the other two are missing sometimes.
