Post pictures of your city

More Kansas City (from my own camera!)

Westport branch library (when I lived in Westport, this was my home away from home!)

Sidewalk sale on Westport road, near Loma Vista Hardware.

Hyde Park Historic District. 37th & Walnut. "Shirtwaister" foursquare houses.

The old Katz drugstore on the corner of Westport & Main.
madridtheatre.jpg

Madrid Theatre, 38th & Main. I used to live directly across the street from this joint!
graffitidragon.jpg

Commissioned graffiti art...this artist did a lot of work in the Westport and downtown area.

Here's where my husband and I used to live when we first moved to Kansas City. The yellow car is ours. 38th & Main

And here's where we lived just before we got our house. 37th & Warwick.

My whole Westport Photo Album can be found here.

Now to my current stomping grounds, the Old Northeast.

Here's how the houses look in my neighborhood...low and symmetrical, with minor variations in trim and finish. Some may have been kit houses from Sears & Roebuck or Montgomery Wards. This street was the site of an amusement park from 1989-1912, and was redeveloped as residential following WWI. Most houses here are from the early-mid 1920s.

Almost all of the signs in the neighborhood are bilingual. Independence & Benton.

signsatpizzaplace.jpg

Some are tri-lingual or more. St. John Ave.

shopbentonindependence.jpg

Our shopping plazas are peculiarly picturesque. Independence & Van Brunt.

baoahnjewelry.jpg

Another idiosyncratic commercial block. Independence Ave.

gladstonetiles.jpg

Sidewalk tiles on the corner of Gladstone Blvd. and Paseo Blvd.

pergola.jpg

If you look up and directly across the street from those tiles, you see the famous Gladstone Blvd/Kessler Park pergola.

stonehosuewithcarvings1.jpg

Marvelously funktacular house on Benton Blvd.

phoenixside.jpg

Closer view of their mad porch pillar.

huaracherialopez.jpg

Teeny-tiny Mexican restaurant. There are 8 barstools. Their refried beans and spicy rice are very, very tasty and supercheap! Independence Ave.

mayfairbigsign.jpg

Mayfair Drycleaners. I reckon they've had this sign since the early 1950s. Independence Ave.

Looking toward my house.

Thank you! I like it...very low-key and kind of old-fashioned. Neighbors still talk to one another and the kids play outside free-range style!

copenhagen.... day and night

Although I go to college in New Haven, I grew up in New Canaan, CT. I can't find any pictures but if you've ever seen The Ice Stoorm or The Stepford Wives (the remake), they were both filmed in my town.
