Prada F/W 14.15 Milan

the thing about those rad coats is that they only look good on a handful of people and have all the potential of making someone look like an absolute consumerist moron and the only people that can actually afford them are in that second group. la la.

MILAN — “It’s a mix of the sophisticated and things that look plain vulgar,” Miuccia Prada said backstage, pulling forward a glitzy oversized blazer before greeting the front row guests Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti. They were treated to the designer wiggling the crystal fringes on her Miu Miu skirt.

On the Prada runway there was a deep sexual surge as models stepped out wrapped in shearling coats with bright and woolly edging. There was also a more discreet version: a tailored coat piped in gold and a cognac-color dress underneath.

It was a choice — and one quite often taken up — to pair a boxy jacket with a wispy translucent dress that revealed underpants patterned like they might be for children.

The show was in just the same spirit as the men’s wear collection in January, where glamorous female models outshone the males. This show was even dismissive of the few males who walked the square runway, covered in carpet underlay. In the pit was an orchestra and the Berlin actress Barbara Sukowa singing Kurt Weill songs from the heart.

Ms. Prada sent out a striking show last season using blown-up prints of artists’ faces. But she has not produced for some time a collection that was arresting, mesmerizing and filled with strong clothes.

Included in the show Thursday were accessories and bold, flat shoulder bags. The wedge shoes had a hefty industrial look and skinny scarves seemed suspiciously like purloined male neckties.

This was Ms. Prada as female triumphant, offering women chic dresses in the familiar, awkward, ugly 1970s wallpaper patterns as well as the ability to dress primly in an elongated black satin shift dress.

For any woman who wants the right to choose a varied but powerful wardrobe, Ms. Prada is her woman.

“It’s a mix of the sophisticated and things that look plain vulgar" Miuccia Prada said backstage.

At least she tells it like it is. Very hit/miss. I too hate the fur trims. I do like the colour combos, the purple coat with gold and the shoes. I hope there will be A lot of modified pieces in the stores.

Prada's always been about mixing the sophisticated and vulgar. Instant love for this.

It's like a gradual timeline in Prada's history of the last 20 years: The lightness of organza 1920s shift dresses of the early 90s; the 1970s graphic design wallpaper/ sofa-prints from the mid-90s; the techno-color Muppet-furs of the early 2000s, and the even brighter color-blocks of recent collections that always favor that royal purple that gives such a 70s pimp vibe.

Miuccia is such a master of colors that she's one of the few designers that's able to tame a mad and wild kaleidoscopic mix successfully. And the silhouettes are really thoughtful and flattering on different shapes of women-- and remain strong and distinctive without verging on silliness. But, there's a deadpan cheekiness in all those gaudy, neon-bright 1970s furry-trimmed pimp coats, so it's not all conceptual and subversive serious "fashion"-- and it all remains expensive-looking. Classic Prada for me. What a relief from last season's atrocity.

I must admit I had to see the collection twice, there was just soo many distractions in the show.

Beautiful collection the dresses all look soo beautiful and the shearling coat (some of them) looked amazing!

I fail to see anything sophisticated about this. Not trying to be a smart ***, I just truly don't see it this season. She's got the vulgarity part down pat though.

Classic Prada with sophisticated/vulgar elements...LOVE!!

Love the Art-Deco prints contrasted with flowy sheer fabrics... and I actually think the red fur dress looks fabulous!! :)

Not bad, but as a brand I find Prada mostly overrated.
Simple silhouettes, quite vintagey and simple. Meh!

the thing i hate the most about this is that i didn't believe the collection enough. I saw where it was going but I don't feel like i saw anything relevant which is never the case with Prada shows. Even if i dislike her collections I remember them, but there was nothing here that I was impressed with...

Truly hideous in every sense (except the shoes, as usual). What was she thinking?? Not much I expect...This is a blow to their reputation. It looks garish with no soul to bind it together. HUGELY disappointing, Caro mio!

Once again I was not blown away by this collection like I have been by past collections mostly back in the 90's. I often think people are scared of not liking Prada because there is so much emphasis on digesting it, in contrast to how you would look at other designer collection's for the second time, if at first you did not take a liking to the specific show. I did really like the vivid red dress at the start, I thought that was a superb mix of sensuality but also class and intrigue. Some of the shering coats in the daring colours were fun, but some, like the last gold coat just looked cheap to me, and not in the good way.

This is nice, (a quieter Prada collection is still stronger than most tbh) but I was honestly expecting so much more than this. If I saw a random image from the collection before looking at it in its entirety, I would seriously not even guess that it's Prada.

already obsessed with the shoes though.

Good: The solid silk dresses, the two black dresses with leather piping (one red the other silver), black coat with gold piping, and the shoes.

Absolutely HORRID: Everything else. The printed pieces and anything with shearling are just appalling.

Another disappointment from Miuccia

Truly hideous and tasteless.
One more thing, this is women's wear fashionweek, why did they suck these male models for a women's wear show? There is no connection between those men's clothes and this collection at all.

There are many great pieces in this collection, but it ins't one the best colections Miuccia have done.

Well, at least it has some sex appeal as opposed to its usual sterile aesthetic.
