Project Runway Season 2

My issue with Zulema had nothing to do with the infamous "walk-off" (which I happened to miss so I have no idea what happened).

My issue is that Banana Republic sponsors this contest and she had her nose stuck up to them as if she was too good to design for them. Overconfident is a good word to whoever used it for her. She hasn't proven herself so she shouldn't place herself above ANY corporation and should be thankful for the opportunity and exposure. Don't bite the hand that feeds you ;)

Jay goes Hollywood???

Hey everyone, I'm new to the Fashion Spot scene, I just discovered it by playing a game, trying to guess what makeup Gemma Ward had on her face, and how you think that the look was achieved. I thought it would be a fun game to play over at Model Mayhem, for the makeup artists.

I clicked a picture from Google, and the next thing you know, i'm reading a Fashion Spot post, so I decided to sign up, even though I'm just finishing in the studio and workshop after an eight hour shift and I am taking a nap before I have to work for another three or four hours.

Anyway, Jay seemed to have turned into an overnight Diva. What's with going hollywood all of a sudden?
^_^

^ Yeah, I was totally surprised....one of the reasons I liked him so much last season was because he seemed so humble and nice but now.....

He's turning into a bit of a man-b*tch

I don't see what everyone is talking about with Jay.

Kara went on and on about a dress that she basically just cut two holes in and put a peice of construction tape around it. Like he said, Big talk with nothing to show for.

Same thing with Santino, it looked just like Austin's Grammy Dress.

And Chloe. When they did the flashback of Jay's Inspiration dress, I had forgotten how gorgeous it was.

Isn't that the way Jay always was? "I didn't take the b*tches' dye!", and wasn't he the one that was always talking about someone?

No one is really wowing me anymore. These designers don't even hold a string to last year's designers.

Check out this new Banana Republic dress:
http://www.bananarepublic.com/browse/outfit.do?cid=12069&oid=OUT01949
Now compare it to the nearly identical dress Zulema and Kara had created in Episode 6:
http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway_2/Episodes/Episode_6/Rate_the_Runway/Kara_Zulema.shtml

The fabric on this top at Banana Republic:
http://www.bananarepublic.com/browse/product.do?cid=12069&pid=374848
looks like what Chloe and Emmett used for their jacket in the same episode:
http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway_2/Episodes/Episode_6/Rate_the_Runway/Emmett_Chloe.shtml

Someone earlier in this thread pointed out the similarities between the Banana Republic kimono-style dress sold this winter:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NWT-Banana-Repu...465774767QQcategoryZ63861QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and the outfit Santino and Nick had designed for Episode 6.

Any thoughts? Coincidence? I think not.

the chloe/emmet jacket can't really be compared to what BR has put out (unless they put out a cropped jacket in that fabric..).. seeing as they went to BR to get the fabric to work with....so seeing the same fabrics is a given. they were designing something to fit into the spring collection..of course they'd have to use the same fabrics that BR used...

the only real suspect one, i think, is nick/santino's kimono jaket and them saying it wouldn't fit the BR style, and then blantantly selling something very kimono like....
the kara/zulema dress is sketchy, too.. lol, but a bit more 'explainable' since it's only really a basic style dress in the same (BR) fabric they used..

as for this week's episode, i'm glad daniel v won, cos i love him.
but i think andrae's was the best (and daniel did too, apparently.. lol. did you hear him say 'i thought it would be andrae'? how humble! aww.).
although, i did miss most of the episode..so i didn't get to see the model drama.
i'm glad zulema's gone. if you can't put out a nicely executed garment, there's no reason you should stay. i can't say i'll miss her. she was the last one left that i really had no feeling towards....now, hopefully, it will get GOOD..
i think i'm 'getting' santino's personality a little more...but i still don't think he's that great of a designer....but i don't dislike him all that much anymore..

Of course not, the fabrics were provided by Banana Repubilc because they were doing an outfit for BR. It's only natural that the BR design team took inspiration from the people at PR or maybe the other way around...

Oh my bad! I missed the first part of the episode so I didn't realize the fabrics were FROM Banana Republic. Thanks for filling me in. I thought the fabrics were from Mood or wherever they usually go. Now that I think about it further, I think the BR Kimono dress was part of a larger campaign they had going on when the movie version of "Memoirs of a Geisha" was released, so maybe it was already in the works. I still do think the Kara/Zulema dress is a bit suspect though.... there's a lot of ways you could work that fabric and the dresses do look nearly identical.

Anyway, it's a great show. I'm not as anti-Santino as I was earlier (love his Tim Gunn impersonations) but I just don't like his style -- it's too embellished and over the top for me and I'm really really glad Zulema's out now. Kara's got to go soon too, I think. Her stuff seems boring. I like Chloe, Nick, and Daniel V best. Andrae's stuff has gotten a lot lot better -- when I saw that episode when he was crying on stage over that denim mess he created, I really didn't he'd go far. He did a great job in this last challenge, but I somehow don't see him in the final three. Jay was more haughty than I expected from the first season. Love this show!

I think Zulema was overconfident but I like that because it sends all the shrinking violets out of the building. I've seen the bloodletting in backrooms, in factories. I'm surprised they just dont mount heads in the garment district. She's a very mild version of what people can actually be. The show's connection with banana republic sucks, it's Parsons further insistence that American Fashion be synon. with blandness that sells to people who are looking to be told. In that case, you should bite not only the hand that feeds you but also the arm. Get some shoulder while your at it. Hey, why not the head too?

I do think that the designers should be aware of the facts you stated, though, especially since all of them claimed to have watched season 1. It is difficult for someone of Santino or Austin's (S1) mindset to fit in with the generic concept that the show's judges appear to be in favor of. I was even surprised when Jay was chosen as the winner last season rather than Kara, not in terms of their design skills but rather the show's bias all season. Those who enter the competition desiring to reform or bring some razzle-dazzle to the show should be very aware that it is a difficult task to achieve :)

All that aside, my favorites are Daniel V, Chloe, Nick, and sometimes Andre...hopefully one out of those four will win!

daniel v

yeah daniel is very good. he seems to be the only designer who steps outside of box (designs from variety of perspectives). other designers seem to replicate similar concepts over and over. i think daniel is going to win. andre will be in the final 3 but for others i am still guessing.

santino just makes pregnant dresses over and over. its as though he has exausted his gimmicks. i wonder whether they keep him for ratings as he is fun to watch. chloe makes boring dresses and unless she really comes up with something more creative, i am not sure whether she is going to make it. of course the girl with accent will be hopefully out in next episode.

as for daniel v. -- my gaydar says that he is gay. it kind of looked as though he started kissing one of the guys during the last episode but the camera was refocused on chloe...

Santino has GOT TO GO

I think I might be the only one who wants him OUT! He's got an attitude problem. Personally, I'm hoping for Daniel. Any else agree????

Just curious, but why does everyone say Zulema is a b*tch? I mean she had the right to choose whatever model she wanted. Its a competition so she played to win. Its not like they are all in the same clique in highschool for god's sake. Zulema even said it wasn't personal, it was business. She had a crappy model and she changed her for a better one. So what? Get over it!

I thought Zulema was a b*tch since day one and she showed her true colors in the Banana Republic Challenge. She's so up herself.

Her designs were never that good to me anyhow, But not as bad as say...Marla's *shudders*

I agree that Nick shouldn't have acted in the manner that he did, because designers lose models all the time. And i mean, you're not paying for them, they are yours by chance. But i do agree that the one Zulema had was an elongated marshmellow that really didn't walk. I wish I could have seen this model's face when she saw last nights episode. She must have been mortified that Tim was making such an *** of her.

I think Nick needs to stop making fishtail designs. They DONT move well when the model walks they kind of snap out and it just doesn't look good.

Santino should have gone home a long time ago. The man can't design sh*t. I feel bad for any woman that puts on one of his ill fitting in the bust dresses and goes out in public. If you noticed the one from this week, the trim was not even on both sides and looked horrendous.

Zulema took a risk taking a picture of a women wearing clothing. Right then you knew all she was going to do was make something red and say it was "ethnic"

Kara..very simple...too simple

Daniel- I liked his, but when i first saw it come down the runway, i could only think of the judge's comments on Daniel Franco's first dress with the bust fitting wierd. Daniel V. could have made it better if it was tighter fitting but kept the wide billowing collar.

Andrae- i really dont understand Heidi's reasoning for saying that his dress looked expensive. It looked OK but the piece of "water" cloth that was twisted down the center made it look cheap I thought.

Chloe- the next time they go to the fabric store, they should inform chloe that she is not allowed to go anywhere NEAR the color blue. She has great, pradaesque simple, elegant designs, but they are ALL BLUE. I understand the picture that she took has blue-ish windows and that tint, but honestly.

For the life of me I can't figure out why Chloe's outfits have almost all been blue...Because in her store Lot 8 which sells some of her original designs, she used all sorts of colors and her designs were great. I wonder why she is constantly gravitating toards blue...? Oh well, I still love her designs. Simple, maybe, but flattering and wearable.

EDIT: Sorry for double posting. I was reading through the threads and forgot I had just posted only minutes ago *blushes*

Santino's Tim Gunn impression was spot on, I thought it really was Tim Gunn at first :p Why did this dress look like the other ones he's done? Same format, just different fabrics. Its deja vu all over again

Andrae Speaking of deja vu

Chloe Step away from the blue!

Daniel He deserved to win this challenge, the design was simple and elegant. The hair was a bit crazy though, but ok

Zulema I didnt really think the walkoff made her a villain or a b*tch nessecarily. It was allowed, and she just used her resources. If a guy did it, would he be thought of as an ***hole?

Kara Blah, boring, next!

Nick The teensy little bit of tummy showing wasnt very flattering because it made the top look awkward

Agreed, other than his rather hilarious and accurate impresonations, Santino's antics are getting old...

Great comparisons post Avant Garde! I always noticed the (Pregnant-looking) similarities in Santino's designs, but I didn't notice them in Andrae's  Seeing the same models only make the likelinesses more blatant!

The moment I saw Santino's fabric choice I screamed "Austen Scarlett's Grammy Dress," too, just as Jay wrote down ^_^

i think chloe is so boring. i mean, she's gotten more interesting as the show has gone on, but still, i think her designs are just BLAND. ican't understand why everyone loves her so.

i must say that i truly love santino, depsite his weird lingerie and ice skating designs. his clothes can be slightly over-the-top, but so is his personality, it fits. i really love most of it and would definitely be first in line to buy clothes from a collection by him. and i think he's witty and honest. i just adore him, hope he wins.

Ok does anyone know where I can find those Doris Duke pictures that Michael Kors had?

love daniel v...is he gay?

Yes he is. He is so cute and sweet and charming though. He is close friends with one of my close friends form ballet and in high school he loved fashion and designing but he was also a dancer and choreographer. He would dress us up like dolls and choreograph on us. He is very talented outside of designing as well.
