Raf Simons Leaving Christian Dior; Maria Chiuri Rumored In

Thought would be really great, even though I still like Francisco's work there. Calvin Klein has a much more urban aesthetic which is perfect for him. But even if it's true he would be only able to sign in after the FW 16 season, I think.

Reading it, makes sense.. Nice to see how he relates to his work. He is very interesting

It will be a big surpise.
Is it not better to do as Stella McCartney does? Design for his own brand, and not only menswear but also a womenswear?
Change Dior to Calvin Klein? It means Simons must again design for Calvin Klein brand and for his own brand. There is no sense?
Simons left Dior because he hasn't any time for privat life ect.Calvin Klein is not Dior but there he must also do many collections yearly.

^Again... he didn't leave Dior for his privat life. He left because his creative process was being suffocated by the speedy pace of the collections. Calvin Klein has a similar structure to Jil Sander, which would work better for him (even less busy because it's possible that wouldn't work on their Menswear).

The Raf Simons label is so iconically established and identifiable as a strictly Menswear label, it's much easier for him do work on Menswear for a established brand, logistically speaking. I think he prefers to preserve the brand as it always been.

But one's private life and one's creativity go hand in hand. In fact, one's private life and one's creativity are often one and the same. Creativity is nurtured and inspiration can come most clearly in times of quiet, private moments that are afforded when someone has freedom in their personal life - time to wake up and start the day slow, have weekends off, leave work early for a movie, a dinner with a friend or partner, a concert, etc.

I can assure you that an exhaustion of the speedy pace of collections and the need for a personal life are essentially the same thing.

i just watched Dior and I, and even from that you could tell that he was not meant for that position. Yes, it was all new to him but he just seems like someone who needs to be involved in every single step (i witnessed first hand that alexander wang is also like this), and I dont think something on such a large scale was good for him.

I hope that he is not going to Calvin. They need a revamp...the brand is so "out there" that i don't even know who buys the runway collections.
But i don't think he is the guy for it.

I want him to do Helmut Lang! He can do wonders with a good revamp.

Going to Calvin means showing at NYFW, so working in 2 different continents. He didn't seemed happy about going back to Antwerp everyday so...
I feel like the owners of Helmut could make it work for him to choose where he wants to establish his studio + showing at PFW!

Dior's Next Two Collections Will Be Designed by the In-House Team

According to reports in both WWD and Vogue, Dior has confirmed that its in-house team will design the next two collections. The announcement might quiet the bubbling speculation as to who will replace former Creative Director Raf Simons, who surprisingly announced his departure in October. But probably not. There are few things the fashion press loves talking about more than designer musical chairs, especially when it involves one of the most influential posts in the industry.

A representative for Dior did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation.

Meanwhile at Dior, the (runway) show must go on. Pre-fall 2016 will be shown only by appointment in January, followed by spring 2016 couture the same month, and then fall 2016 ready-to-wear in March, all of which will fall under the design team's collective direction. If 2014 documentary "Dior and I" (which focused on Simons's first couture collection) is anything to go by, the French house has a solid team of designers and seamstresses who are well-equipped to get the job done.

If someone emerges to take the lead in the meantime, could Dior follow Gucci's example and promote someone from within? It may not have worked out quite that way for Bill Gaytten (who ended up with a creative director role at John Galliano rather than Dior after Galliano was fired), but... Sorry, there's that speculation creeping out again.

Oh I wasn't expecting this. I mean, I knew the Design Team is in charge of Pre-Fall but the next two too ? The only possible reasons I can imagine right now is: They'll let Phoebe or Tisci write the final chapter on their respectives houses, They'll wait until Alber solves his issues with Lavin/Wang or the collections designed by the Team will be a sort of audition for the job. I have the feeling Olivier is already off the race so I'm not waiting for him to take over anymore. I recall reading somewhere He turned down the offer not once but twice.

I think it's good if they take their time to make a good match for both the house and the designer.

I wonder if the design team will continue with the minimal clinical aesthetic or try for a more vintage Dior approach with the collections they'll design.

^Did you see what they did reinterpreting a Dior look from the 50's that Rihanna wore recently? I'm beyond afraid of what is going to come. :ninja:

And I can't believe they need a WHOLE year to decide who is going to be the next designer. It's not like a new Ghesquière will emerge in a couple of months...

Maybe they'll adapt Gaytten's aesthetic? It was quite pretty and it sold well so it would be a wise choice.

I thought they just made a brand new dress for her using an old pattern so she wouldn't be wearing the original dress, if they claim they designed it then that's just sad.

Awards shows are coming up and they're gonna have to dress more celebs (though they might just give them old raf designs or vintage Dior)

Most likely vintage Dior. Raf's designs, being as sterile and innocuous as they are, do not translate well into red carpet looks. even when Jennifer Lawrence won her Oscar, that dress looked weird in the room with more traditional looks from other houses on other celebrities. She was pretty, but it was different.

I am not even a Raf fan but even then, that actually is quite off putting for me. Why people cannot accept a different aesthetics but have to have the usual look all the time? And Raf"s designs for Dior wasnt even groundbreaking to say the least.
But then again, let us be reminded this is hollywood :D

kudos to Lawrence for her unusual choice though.

Rihanna's look was not the best, the gown she wored, sorry but it was horrible.
I hope they are not going to send this kind of dresses on the catwalk in the haute couture week?
I hope they will make a decision.
