But one's private life and one's creativity go hand in hand. In fact, one's private life and one's creativity are often one and the same. Creativity is nurtured and inspiration can come most clearly in times of quiet, private moments that are afforded when someone has freedom in their personal life - time to wake up and start the day slow, have weekends off, leave work early for a movie, a dinner with a friend or partner, a concert, etc.^Again... he didn't leave Dior for his privat life. He left because his creative process was being suffocated by the speedy pace of the collections.
fashionistaDior's Next Two Collections Will Be Designed by the In-House Team
According to reports in both WWD and Vogue, Dior has confirmed that its in-house team will design the next two collections. The announcement might quiet the bubbling speculation as to who will replace former Creative Director Raf Simons, who surprisingly announced his departure in October. But probably not. There are few things the fashion press loves talking about more than designer musical chairs, especially when it involves one of the most influential posts in the industry.
A representative for Dior did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation.
Meanwhile at Dior, the (runway) show must go on. Pre-fall 2016 will be shown only by appointment in January, followed by spring 2016 couture the same month, and then fall 2016 ready-to-wear in March, all of which will fall under the design team's collective direction. If 2014 documentary "Dior and I" (which focused on Simons's first couture collection) is anything to go by, the French house has a solid team of designers and seamstresses who are well-equipped to get the job done.
If someone emerges to take the lead in the meantime, could Dior follow Gucci's example and promote someone from within? It may not have worked out quite that way for Bill Gaytten (who ended up with a creative director role at John Galliano rather than Dior after Galliano was fired), but... Sorry, there's that speculation creeping out again.
Olivier is already off the race so I'm not waiting for him to take over anymore. I recall reading somewhere He turned down the offer not once but twice.
Theyskens or Rouseting?
I wonder if the design team will continue with the minimal clinical aesthetic or try for a more vintage Dior approach with the collections they'll design.
^Did you see what they did reinterpreting a Dior look from the 50's that Rihanna wore recently? I'm beyond afraid of what is going to come.
And I can't believe they need a WHOLE year to decide who is going to be the next designer. It's not like a new Ghesquière will emerge in a couple of months...
Most likely vintage Dior. Raf's designs, being as sterile and innocuous as they are, do not translate well into red carpet looks. even when Jennifer Lawrence won her Oscar, that dress looked weird in the room with more traditional looks from other houses on other celebrities. She was pretty, but it was different.
