ok- so i sent requests for everything the week after the calendar came out...
so about 3 weeks ago...
and i should start to receive invites some time this and next week...
and then seating assignments the week after?...
does that sound right?...
should i start calling around just to confirm that all my requests have been recieved?..

that is a LOT of phone calls......

who do you think i am dealing with?......

and the pr people at the showrooms who i am friends with don't usually wind up producing the show...
plus- PR people all move around constantly...
the chances that anyone will still be there a year from now are pretty slim....
PR is a revolving door...it's always shifting and changing...

Hi,

I am a beginning fashion illustrator and artist located in Brussels. Does anyone know how easily illustrators and artists are given invitations to Paris fashion shows? It would be so great to go there to do drawings on spot and preferably back stage as the models might be more still there..

I do not work on commission yet so I would like to make some drawings from the S/S 2007 collections and build my portfolio.

I am mostly interested in high profile houses, but for the experience it would also be great to draw at more low key shows.

I am also contacting fashion houses my self, but it would help alot to get some advice beforehand.

press... left side of runway

magazines....
editor in chief, fashion director, and fashion editor(s) front row but maximum of 4 per publication. contributing editors second row.

foreign magazines... editori in chief and fashion director only for invitations. front row only if publication is 'top' publication otherwise second row

stylists... stylists who are also fashion editors of 'top' magazines... front row, otherwise second row and so on.. celebrity stylists front row and generally accompanied by one of their celeb clients/friend as rule

photographers... 'top' photographers always front row, photographers who are friends with the PR company not front row, sometimes even standing

celebrities... always front row except at couture where they can be as far back as 3rd row!

buyers... right hand side of runway

major department store buyers: front row, assistants/anything else from same store, second and so on...

general store stockists national... front row
regional...second

small time buyers... second/third
at prada standing only

haha well only in the sense that i have to wait, in suspense, until i get to new york to see which shows i have invites to ...

but the most important thing is that i know i'll be going to several great shows...so i suppose it's silly to focus on the invitations

i have SO many invites to all the smaller shows...

**wondering about rsvp-ing...
is it a good idea to rsvp to everything...even if you know you are not going to attend...
just so you have the option...

i guess that some PR people might get annoyed if you rsvp but then don't come...

thoughts?...

hmm..that's a good question softgrey.

i also have one: even though someone said that you can't get into a show even if someone else gave you their ticket bc if your name doesn't match the ticket you won't be let in--does this apply when your editor in chief gives you (senior fashion editor) her ticket?

and is your "title" written on your credentials/pass?
