Rochas to close

I received news this weak, explaining that the pre-collection for S/S 2007 that had just been presented in Paris will not be put into production... which is why I decided to share my favourite pieces with you... hopefully it does show a bit that the collection can have an entirely different allure when seen through an almost entirely black filter, leaving out most of the cute-sy, sugar-y stuff... it does look much more gothic/victoriana in my opinion, something I would easily put next to people like Demeulemeester or Yohji.

1st post; I guess it's going to be evident that I freaking LOVE that skirt, mainly because of the fabric which wow-ed me entirely ever since I had a brief look on it - it does have an amazing texture and looks as if you found an old baroque dress after hundreds of years lying in a chest... you know, somewhat precious looking, but also decayed. I really loved it as a daytime outfit with the cardigan which looks a little borrowed, yet sexy with the curved V-neckline.

They also had a dress in the same fabric which reminded me very much of some pieces that I saw in the Balenciaga Paris exhibition... those cocoon-like dresses did leave an impression on me! I agree that it might overwhelm most women due to the volume, but I would have loved, loved to see this one on a willow-y type of person with black opaques! :D

There were a lot of drop-waisted dresses in the collection that made me think of Linda McCartney... I did love her when she was wearing dresses like these. On the other side, I was thinking of a little girl's night frock, but it does look much more couture-esque with the black lace pattern. I think it would look amazing with an old denim jacket on top and some good, worn in boots!

tricotine..you're amazing...
*the collection not being produced, was expected of course....which only hightens the value of those ^ samples...given they don't burn them.
WHAT IS going to happen to the archives!?

regarding drop waists..i predicted it'd be a popular shape during the spring season. i think it's part of the balenciaga obsession going right now..very much like that big herringbone cape from the f/w '06 runway show and many of cristobal's pieces...

i'd like the see the african print that supposedly inspired olivier this time around. i caught something on style.com with yellow and orange leaves(?).

They just explained some of the simple cottons as being african-inspired, as well as some dyeing-techniques. there was a section of cotton separates- jackets, coats, trousers and skirts that were made in a rather thick, textured cotton with slightly uneven surface work (a trademark for the house, I can't remember any fabrics that ever looked "plain" or "dead"). Some of those had sort of a tie-dyed detailing, as in the waistbands and hemlines of skirts and trousers. There was also a section of washed velvets (I always found those oddly-misplaced in S/S) which came either printed or without... those could be what they were writing about.

Oh, I will definitely give it a try and ask if I can preserve some of the clothing...!! I'd love to keep one of those big dresses just for display use...:D

^speaking of which..is that a gown i see in the background?:shifty:
*tiedyed waistbands and hems? sounds awfully similar to the pre-fall collection they have on their website. some beige trousers with orange dip-dyed waistbands and something else..

^thank you! you didn't have to..
it looks like it's made from the same 'aged' jacquard...
and i see a white frilly dress peeking out behind the black one.

it appears as if he was trying to find a way to create a hybrid between his big guepière-constructed bustier gowns and those floaty bias-cut dresses... this one combines both the fuller skirt with the flou that he was trying to capture before... I really love how he just nicely evolves his aesthetic with every collection, hopefully he'll be doing it elsewhere soon <3

I actually love that balemciaga esque dress, the back is so clever.

Rochas was the first label that when I saw it, I instantly thought, ME. Nothing else even compares. I so envy the lucky ones who were able to purchase anything Rochas during its stellar three year run. I only saw a few pieces in person at Jeffrey, but they were some of the most beautifully crafted that I have ever laid eyes upon. I wanted a Rochas gown for my wedding (I'm only 21 and not engaged or anything, but you know...), and I am so sad because it will be almost impossible to find a Rochas gown in the future.

This is so unbelievable...
So many Hollywood A-listers like Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman have worn Rochas, and it is always one of the top ten collections chosen by style.com and Vogue. I even thought that Rochas must be doing great...
Sad...really sad!

thank you for all the information tricot.
greatly appreciated :flower:

Dare I assume that it might have to do with fact that it's still fairly "minimal" and less obviously cute? they did have similar styles with floral prints in pastels, but that's for a totally different type of person in my opinion... it's not too obviously "cute" in my opinion with the black and the lace-y texture... still fragile but more like a Victorian doll, not at all "bohemian".

*can i just say that i CANNOT wait for the rochas collection to get into the store near me...it's always a very limited amount, but i'm eager to see some of the organza suits...
...and that boiled wool and lace coat:heart:
...and eager to explore the details: those double lapels, the usual grosgrain ribbons and panels of lace inside..

*trico..has your store received a shipment yet? i know things are a little slower in europe in that respect
i'd call it "better timed" actually..

thank god somebody is speaking it out after all...!! I am always getting mad by the fact that some companies want to deliver wintercoats in june (an aquascutum representant once told me that they ship winter season in MAY!!!), there's simply no reason people would buy them at that time except from the fear that some other person would get her hands on it before.

no, we haven't received anything yet. it's mainly because the fabrics that we chose are very winter-ish. a lot of textured wools with jacquard weave and also the felted wool coats... I think they'll be a best seller - they're light as a feather and do give a lovely shape... AND, the price is really good as well, much less than 1000€ for the one without the lace overlay.

^ so the complaints about the price were overblown really..
the last collection definitely marked a more pragmatic approach, imho..
more easy separates..things like that

*oh yeah, all the stores in america have their fall collection fully out by mid-august. but that's the whole thing. usually things start arriving in june.
i think it's a matter of renewal for people. and yes, definitely the fear of someone else getting the item before you.
i remember when those damn sugary jackets and coats with peter pan collars (that i know you hate too..) flooded into the stores mid-june, they sold out.
impulse buys..:innocent:

Less "bigger" news, but Hervé L.Leroux (aka Hervé Léger) has been fired as designer for the house of Guy Laroche.
