Rochas to close

as for the De La Renta rumour, it would make me want to puke big time... I wouldn't want Olivier to solely address the New York uptown lady of a certain age that wears tasteful in beige... the thing is that Rochas always had an edge as well - people that use to wear Yohji, Margiela, Comme or Ann Demeulmeester I could totally see adding a piece or two from Rochas (which is the way I saw most people wearing it - a dress with boots, a jacket with skinny black pants and flats, it always worked fabulously well) - but at De La Renta, this sensibility would be entirely lost. I don't want to see him becoming an American designer, you know?

That's what I was thinking also.*But, it's not that he would be working in New York but it's that De La Renta is contrasting to what I think of Theyskens, or maybe I've just been thinking in terms of Rochas :ermm:

^yes, yes! get out of my head! i'd rather see theyskens become a florist than an american designer. no offense of course.. i'd rather see new york fashion week stay the way it is. i want the 7 days in paris to remain special. unless de la renta completely changes the customer and moves its show to paris.

just for theyskens ...:woot:

This isn't that shocking in terms of how Rochas isn't that accessible, but the idea that his talent would almost be wasted in this manner.

Even if he does go to De La Renta, it's a different aesthetic.... Though it'd be interesting to see how he takes it, I loved where he took Rochas itself...

exactly! i'd rather have him revive his own line. don't get me wrong, de la renta has some great pieces but its aesthetic is all about the glamorous new york woman (much like carolina). if ever olivier does work for him, then it'd be interesting to see what he's going to do. but as far as i'm concerned, if there are other options, this should not be seriously considered. just my opinion. also, seeing what he had done to rochas, i think the backers should not have any doubts that olivier has a fan base. i wish him well as he's one of my faves. and that dress tricotineacetat posted reminded me so much of how far rochas had gone since olivier took over. oh the good times:cry:

I'll go buy Oliver's designs(that is if I was rich)
I don't think closing of Rochas is going to effect
Olivers endeavours.....

The curse of the Devil Wears Prada has spread :ninja:

Retail is slumping in the economy. Can't blame P&G for phasing it out- reality check. Olivier will be fine. this is his chance to be his own entity or work for another luxury house. We shall see what his decision will be tomorrow.

 I love his work....I can't wait for what he is going to do next!

WOW.

This is totally unexpected. I never liked Rochas but I always thought it was very popular and respected in the fashion world.

My first reaction was to glance at my mobile and triple check that it wasn't an April Fool's Day joke.

This is just shocking.

^I am too, and its shocking news. To me Olivier was excelling at Rochas - the lastest Fall collection certainly showed that. However i have no doubts that Olivier will certainly go on to bigger and better things - i am hoping he will go back to his own collection

Wow, that is just....shocking.

As sad as it is though, I've always looked at Rochas as very beautiful but very unwearable, and I would love to see what Theyskens could do with a brand that was a bit more touchable.

Awww that's a shame:(.
I've seen a menswear line in my country, and it's cheap, i think those clothes are made by a licence.

I thought that same thing, but the fall collection completely changed my mind. The shorts, the skirts, the cute shirts, the pantsuits. So dreamy and def. wearable!!
