In addition, if they seem interested, take your polaroids, etc. but do not mention the contract, does that mean that they are silently dismissing you? Or can they think more about you and then contact you regarding the technicalities at a later period in time?

im so frustrated because i get rcommended to this agency my friend is with. He says he gets great auditions. Im a 18 year old girl and i paid 500 bucks for pics and stuff and i havnt gotten a call for an audition since xmas.. the agent says its a 'slow time"
but i am tired of waiting

In Toronto, it is quite busy right now. 500 isn't an exorbitant amount to pay, but most A type agencies will manage to get you a free test and then you just have to pay for prints. Even the prints though, should be paid in advance for you until you make money modelling. At NeXt we front everything, and at most other top agencies they do the same. Go to meet with the top agencies in the city. It isn't quite the high season yet, but there is quite a bit of work right now. The really busy season (advertising, catalogue and campaign) starts middle of may and goes right through until september.

i wouldnt exactly call that busy season??

I've compiled it so that people will stop paying for these bogus "scouting" services who just submit your photos through the normal channels anyway (or don't at all).

You can also see all the back episodes of the Agency on VH1's website linked to through this review from my friend. If you are thinking about going to an open call, watch this first to know what the agents are looking for (even if it is a little dramatized).

And to answer a running topic a few pages back, yes there are a lot of models who are 5'9" working on the runway in NYC, and a handful of the big names who are shorter than that. I know this because I'm almost 5'10" with no shoes on and judge their heights while I'm chatting with them backstage. A lot of times they look so tall because they either have amazing presence or are wearing heels.

That said, at least 3/4's of the girls are 5'10"-6'0". After 6' it falls off since it's almost too tall to model. The samples just don't fit right on some of the super tall girls and I'm left wondering how any woman can guess how a skirt/dress might fit on her if it's in all the runway pics on a super amazon!

Just Toronto You're right that Paris shuts down in august and Milan Closes down as well. Each market has it's busy season. Right now, alot of asian markets are gearing up to get busy.

When meeting with an agency for the first time, are there any ways that they will reject you/let you down. I know at open calls they don't have to be nice or polite, but if you have talked to them several times and they are interested, but comes time to meet you, they decide you are not what they were looking for, will they directly let you know or use a subtle "dismiss" phrase?

What should you watch out for or know as a sign that they don't like you?

Style Star, I notice that you're asking a lot of questions, generally about the same thing. Open calls are pretty much all the same. There really isn't any reading between the lines. As much as anyone can tell you about their attending open calls or the perhaps the people that hold the open calls, it really won't be of any real help to you once it happens.

Regardless whether they are waiting for you or not, it really only matters if they want to take you on with their agency or not. That being said, theres no use worrying about reading between the lines because in the end, you are either going to be signed or not.

I've read in this thread that modeling in Asia(Japan to be exact) is easier since they don't have the same standards as European modeling, the height requirements for example. So I was wondering what the minimum standards were and the chance of being succesful over there..

How long ago did you sign with your agency? Check to see if it has a clause of getting out of it.
