So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

how long does it usually take for well known agencies (elite, ford, storm, img, etc) to get back to you if you sent them picture via e-mail? (and lets say you have a '"killer" look)

There's no standard answer. Have they requested pictures? If so, give them a call. If you just sent them in, if you dont hear from them in a month its a safe bet that they aren't interested.

they typically look at the the same day as they're recieved, or the morning after if it's after hours. If you have what they would consider a "killer" look then they would respond immediately and ask you to questions like about experience, location, whatever or they'll request more pics just to get your attention so you know they're interested and you don't lose hope and don't move onto another agency.

I remember when I sent my photos to Mode Models, they responded within 15 minutes of me sending the email. I was like "..woah, must not be busy today." But then, of course, I lived too far for them to represent me:rolleyes:.
Is that just an excuse they will use? I mean, if they really liked me, wouldnt it not matter? I know they don't pay for flights of w/e, but hell, I'd pay for the flight if they wanted to meet me.

Its not just a matter of going to meet them that's the problem. If you are too far from them you can't fly in for castings everyday. You can't fly in for polaroids. If you dont live at least within an hour of the city of the market you're trying to break into, then is pretty much impossible.

What about models who live in Russia and sign with like, I dunno, IMG?
The nearest agency near me is in Montreal, and that's about 8-9 hour drive.
So. frustrating.
Well, don't agencies have you live in model apartments? So, I go and meet them, if they like me, I move. Does that ever happen?

well, I can do posing, I've danced my whole life and I guess it could be fun...but I had to hold almost the same position for an hour...I don't know if this is normal in the modelling biz..

I guess it just surprised me how..boring? it was. I still could do that for a living/ extra cash if I had the chance, but I'd rather be a stylist :p

Almost every model I've ever heard about has said that modeling is boring. What do you expect?

I haven't totally given up on modeling... its just my skin. Its pretty bad, not gonna lie. However- I just went to a dermatologist and hopefully that will all be out of the way before I turn 17.

Not too worried about my age though... someone I just met recently pegged me at twelve.

iwas scouted to be a model twice but both times, i said maybe because i wasn't sure. i went home to check the websites and one of thme didn't seem valid and the second was just a joke. so be careful!

Then go see the agency during an open call. Then see what happens.

I think you guys are having a misunderstanding
I try to explain the thing to you: Some of the girls on the development board of any agency in let's say Paris who are from any other country have this agency as partneragency and not as motheragency. Which means they will come to Paris for some weeks and for this time they'll stay in modelapartments. On the other hand, new faces who have an agency in Paris as motheragency have to live in Paris because you always have to live in the near of your motheragency to be always in touch with your booker, be always available for clients to go to castings or go&sees ...So if you live in Canada it doesn't make any sense to try to get a motheragency in Paris without living there. Only if you plan moving to Paris you can try this option. And by the way it's hard to get a very good agency like the one you mentioned in Paris as motheragency without any experience (I mean you have to have big potential to make that)
Hope this helps :flower:

if they see big potential in you they'll answer very quickly, the latest within some days. If you don't hear anything they're simply not interested in representing you.

But isn't it possible to go in model appartments as well if you have a Paris motheragency?

No... just for a week or 2 to go to castings and gosees and some sort of stuff. Or is that a crazy idea? hahaha.

the thing is if you have a Paris motheragency two weeks of castings are nothing. you have to be available all the time to work together with them otherwise it doesn't make any sense.

Yes, Diamond is correct ... castings and go sees come up suddenly. So, you have to be there all the time ... sometimes there's as little as an hour's notice and rarely more than a day.

Perhaps you are confusing castings/go sees with open calls. Open calls are for aspirng models to go in to see the agency and try to get on their board ... sort of like a job interview with the agency to see if they want to rep you. Castings and go sees are when the agency sends you out to prospective clients who are looking for models for projects.

You would need to pay your way to meet them (open call or by appointment) and then if they want to represent you, you would have to move there. And they don't put you in an models' apartment for free, either ... you will have to pay for that, too.

So ... you need to live where your mother agency is located. Only after you are developed, experienced and in demand, will they start to market you in other cities, through their other offices or through other agencies.

So do you think it won't work if I would have a motheragency in Germany? (I'm from Holland and I live 10 minutes driving from Germany, lol)

I find that weird that you have to pay for the apartments. An agent told me she'd let me stay for free. As in live.
