So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Haha! Nice one.

I emailed an Amsterdam agency last night and they responded early in the morning asking for more pics. We're in the same boat!;) I haven't send pictures back yet, I have to make something beautiful first haha...

Good luck to you, we really are in the same boat, I haven't sent pics back yet, I definitely wasn't expecting that quick of a reply, really wasn't expecting anything at all.

What agency did you send pictures too?

Wow that's great! Thanks for the sweet comment, I really hope this will work out. I'm a little scared to send pictures again, because the chance of rejection is still there haha.

I feel the same way, and how could I say anything bad about your look lol, even though there is still the rejection factor, hey so far they must have seen something, and I feel my pictures will be better than the ones I sent cause I won't have to worry about being in baggy clothes, show how toned my body is, and the white background really does something with your face, that is if you have the look.

I know you should try to get the pics back to the agency as quick as possible, but how long is too long? I should be able to send pics within this week, but that is if I can find a white wall to get in front of, and what I mean how long is too long, is how long before they start getting upset/ losing interest?

I really don't know! Today I sent pictures back, at 2 PM and I haven't heard anything yet. My hope is gone actually haha... It's so weird because on Models.com I have a lot of replies (more than average..) about people saying I really can model and stuff, but seriously I get rejection after rejection :P And still I'm not giving up, although I'm already 20 and quite old for a beginning model....

Maybe they are just taking a long time to review you:(, ya, your post on Models.com is like 90 pages long, my topic on MDC resulted in argument by some people, because they were not sure about my look, so they told me to just send pics to a top mens agency. Just curious did you ever get contacted on MDC by an agency, I did once like right when I joined. I would be surprised if you didn't.

Your case is truly unheard of, I and many, many other people look at you and see a model, people look at me and either love my look or hate it lol. This is truly a case of the people not being an agency, both you and I, I guess.

I would say keep on hoping, and keep on sending to agencies, I'm not trying to instill false hope, but with you being 20, maybe you can be the exception and come out a high fashion model.

Oh I only know this too well  but go for it, i wish you all the best :flower:

Haha, yes, or maybe they think IEHWWW and don't respond to me at all :P hahaha.
Wow I don't have 90 pages, but 90 replies haha! I haven't been contacted by an agency, because I didn't have a portfolio online. Maybe I should.

I really hope you're right but I have to be realistic as well and I know the chance of being a (top) highfashion model is very small. But dreaming is always good right? It makes you live ;)

Maybe the hate it or love it part is a good thing for you :flower: Have you tried all the top NY agencies?

Ya, I meant 90 replies lol, I know you have to be realistic, that is how I'm being as well, I'm not trying to get too excited, the moment I get signed and do some work is when I will be excited. I just want you to keep a little bit more hope, until that is you feel it is getting in the way of things.

No, I haven't tried all the top NY agencies, I will, but smartazz, from MDC, told me not to be stupid and waste my great look( which I was surprised he thought)^_^ by sending crap pictures, so he told me to have pictures like the model of the week, which I know I should have, but it so hard to find a white wall like they use, plus they have great indoor lighting usually.

So I'm really hoping I can find these things, to take my best natural pictures.

Yes maybe that's my problem too, I have white walls, but all with crappy lighting.

please keep in mind that agency is only the 1st step.
the second one is a lot more dificult. clients will generally be unsatisfied with everything not just only ***Edited***, legs and face.
being constantly told 'no' does depress i should say, it's vital to overcome this and keep going to castings. if you don't it's most likely your star won't shine

the above is from my personal experience if you wonder.

True, but I think I can deal with this, I think I'm rejected for 50 times or so and I'm very down to earth, and sure I will be feeling depressing sometimes, but I'm positive-minded.

^I can only agree with what you two said before, I also have a portofolio up on MDC (well kinda portofolio, the pics arent really good) and omfg the response I got was horrible, everyone told me I wouldnt look like model-ish at all and that i should 'get a life' and so on. I was quite shocked tbh, because I mean a simple (but nice!) 'dont think you can make it' would be enough as well, no ? Well anyway, after a few days I surprisingly got contacted by an agency, and he was really enthusiastic about me, called me the same night and told me that he loves my look etc. etc. I didnt really take him seriously but he apparently stuck to his guns and after some research I found his website and even tho they are more focused on men (tgeezyband, maybe thats smth for you!) they do present a few high fashion girls and one of their boys has just been placed with Ford. So not that bad I think. Anyway I sent some more polas to him and he said that Marilyn would be interested as well as Next, they just said I need a better haircut. (I got short hair now, and they both want it to be long). So Ill probably have to wait until it grows out. Thats fine for me, *** EDITED *** So yeah thats been our last talk, he told my I can either get extensions or wait til the hair grows out ***EDITED ***, than Id be 'easy placeable'.
Hope I didnt bore you with my story, I just think we all can only profit from eacht other's experiences ^_^

Oh and about being rejected. Ive been to a very renowned agency in Berlin (theyre presenting MCB and Anja Rubik among others) a couple of weeks ago after I sent my polas to them and they were really nice, took many pictures, let me walk and set up a little interview, so yeah, I actually was quite optimistic and then after two days they called me and said that after long discussions (not sure whether thats a good sing or not) they finally decided not to sign me. At first I felt really, really discouraged but by now Im thinking that they are like one of thousand of agencies out there, so why not give it another try with some other agency ?

Thanks for your story! It cheers me up a little bit.

Well I went to Modelwerk in Germany last year, ***Edited ***, but he said , that I could come back and he gave me his card. So I think that's quite positive! But after I went there, I don't know I had a modelling-dip or something, I didn't want to become a model so badly anymore... ***Edited*** : this is just my dream, I want to be a model. Modelwerk was just too far away, it was like 4 hours by car while Amsterdam is 2,5 hours by car. So yeah... I just want to have an Amsterdam agency because it's much easier.
****Edited *** .. the Amsterdam agencies are not as tough as international agencies ***Edited*** so it frustrates me that I can't find one...
(However the negative part in the Netherlands is... there are SO MANY agencies here, with so many many models, maybe that plays a roll with it too...)

Yeah I thought about sending my pictures to Modelwerk as well, but you know, the head of the agency discovered and developed Toni Garrn, and for me, even tho its complete nonsense - Id inevitebly compare myself to her when I would send pictures to them and thats just not really encouraging. I know thats soo stupid but its just somehow stuck in my head. Thats probably the challenge thing you were talking about as well.

Nah, I enjoy reading long post, kind of like story time back in elementary school:lol:.

I'm surprised that they went that far on MDC, especially since you got contacted. The issue with me was the younger less experienced members, and some pro members really liked my look, and they other 2 pro members just said the aren't wowed by my look.

Thing is I got contacted lol when they said no, so I was really confused about my look, now I'm pretty glad that they said that, I now think of rejection as only an opinion.

*** Edited***

And if I were you, I would send photos to Modelwerk! They are really nice, and their agency is in a beautiful chique street of Hamburg! You can always get a 'yes', right? :D
