I don't usually get bad service where I go and I'm shocked to read through this thread and hear of everyone's bad experience. Of the places that I've been to with great service here's a few that stands out in my mind: Barney's Dallas, Neiman Marcus Dallas (a lady in the purse dept calls me the moment they markdown anything), Gucci Houston, any Nordstoms, Alexander McQueen Las Vegas, Prada Honolulu, Dior Honolulu, Coach Houston, and Saks Fifth Avenue Houston (except for the purse department).
There used to be a guy that worked in the purse department in Saks Houston who was super nice and we ended up becoming good friends, but ever since he left, every time I go to the purse department I get completely ignored. Other than that they pretty much jump on me every time I walk through there to stop me from going to Neiman Marcus
The Prada store in Honolulu was ridiculous with their customer service. All I did was walk in there to ask if they had the Spring 08 purses with the "fairies" on it. The next thing I know I'm sitting down, going through the S/S 08 catalog and having a 30 minute conversation with the store manager about the collection. She told me everything; news, events, tips, sign up for this sign up for that. The AC wasn't turned on very high so after a while I was sweating buckets and was trying desperately to end the convo and get out of there.
The Dior store in Honolulu was super nice too. I had purchased the anniversary Dior book and it felt like it was about half my weight so the SA there (who again talked to me for about 10 minutes on how great Dior was), was very concerned about my safety in carrying the book in 5 inch platform heels, so he offered to carry it for me to my car.
The bad experience I had was in Neiman Marcus Houston. The bad service wasn't directed to me, but my friends who were with me and I didn't like that at all. My friends were being followed through the store, they were being discouraged from touching anything, and were being completely ignored when they asked a question while the SA's were being completely nice to me. The bad treatment they were getting vs. the good treatment I was getting upset them so much that they told me that they were going to wait outside the store for me. Also one of the ladies at the NARS counter nearly bit my head off because I didn't want to buy a bronzer she suggested. Why the hell do I need bronzer when I'm already super-tanned naturally?
And for those who believe that you have to act like a b!tch to get good service: as I said above, I hardly get back service and that's not because I go into these stores dripping in diamonds or anything. I've learned that a nice smile, showing great interest in the brand/products, and maybe even cracking a joke to make them laugh will get you a long way. The SA's always remember me when I go back to the stores and they always treat me well.
