Talking Movie Awards 2011

I finally saw The Descendants and have to admit that George deserves the nominations he's getting. It was a moving film and he did manage to make me forget he was George Clooney-- no self-satisfied smirks and debonair wardrobe. Shailene Woodley was also fantastic. Maybe she can get away from the teen sitcom she's on and do more promising roles.

Even though I haven't had the chance to see it yet if The Artist wins BP I'm not going to mind.

I really need to get around to watching The Descendants. I thought George was good in ''Up in the Air'' so I'm sure I'll enjoy him in this too.

I also liked The Descendants. It was a little clumsy at times (surprising coming from the guy who made intelligent adult dramas such as Sideways and About Schmidt, and partly in Election).

Shailene Woodley was just so watchable and character that could've been so unsympathetic in the hands of the wrong actress.

^Shailene is my new girl crush because of that role lol

imo The Artist deserves every award they win, it´s so beautiful
and I still haven´t seen all the movies that are nominated for Best Picture but it´s a lot better than The Help, The Descendants or Moneyball imo... quality and acting.

So anyone knows how many hours/days until Oscar? I'm getting a bit lost here.

^ they're on Sunday! we're like 52/53 hours away .. because it's 10:30 am on PT right now. And arrivals usually start around 2 pm, no?

I dreamed about the Oscars the other day, I was so upset because Demian Bichir didn't win.

Thank you, MP  Now I can put the 'SLEEP EARLY!' schedule somewhere
I missed almost all the live award ceremonies this year and I'm not planning to do another for this :boxer:

I can't wait for the big storm when Rooney win :innocent:

So the consensus for the winners seems to be as follows.

Picture: The Artist
Director: The Artist
Actor: Jean Dujardain, The Artist
Actress: Viola Davis, The Help
S.Actor: Christopher Plummer, Beginners
S.Actress: Octavia Spencer, The Help
O. Screenplay: Midnight in Paris
A. Screenplay: The Descendants
Foreign Language Film: A Separation
Animated: Rango
Documentary: Paradise Lost 3
Cinematography: The Tree of Life
Editing: The Artist
Art Direction: Hugo
Costumes: The Artist
Makeup: The Iron Lady
Score: The Artist
Song: The Muppets
Sound: Hugo
Sound Editing: Hugo
Visual Effects: The Rise of Planets of the Apes

Hopefully there'll be some surprises.

BTW, I watched Hugo the other day. THE MOST OVERRATED MOVIE OF THE YEAR. It was terrible.

^I´m going with Meryl Streep for BA, Max von Sydow for SA and Jessica Chastain for SA

I'm curious to see who will win in both leading acting categories, especially since I read what Bret Easton Ellis said on Twitter and that Dujardin didn't win the Cesar yesterday

No clue who will win best actress either, even though most say it's Viola Davis

I think the only actor who has the Oscar locked is Christopher Plummer.

I really hope Viola wins BA, just saw the help last night, can't get over how well everyone acted!

didn't you hear? mark wahlberg knows all winners, he claims he saw the list cus a friend of his works in the office that makes those envelopes or something - jean, plummer, octavia and viola are winners he claims.

^lol that´s great!!

Anyway, I finally caught up with all the nominated movies/actors and this is my wishlist

Best Picture
The Artist or Hugo
I wouldn´t mind, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Best Actress
Meryl Streep or Viola Davis
I wouldn´t mind, Michelle Williams

Best Actor
Jean Dujardin or Demian Bichir
I wouldn´t mind (though it pains me to admit his good job), George Clooney

Supporting Actress
Berenice Bejo or Octavia Spencer
I wouldn´t mind, Jessica Chastain

Supporting Actor
Christopher Plummer or Max von Sydow
I wouldn´t mind, Nick Nolte

Best Director
Michel Hazanivicius or Martin Scorsese

I can see Clooney snatching it. The Actress race reminds me of the Actor race in 2009 (Rourke vs. Penn). It's so interesting because I can see all Clooney, Dujardin, Davis and Streep all winning, but of course there can only be two. :D

And I'm glad Extremely Loud wasn't as sucky as I was expected.

I still haven't seen most of the nominated films. Usually by this point, I've at least seen the majority.
But I don't have time...this semester is killer.

Either way, my predictions are as follows:

Best Picture: The Artist
Actor: Jean Dujardin
Actress: Michelle Williams
Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer
Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer
Director: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist)
Original Screenplay: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist)
Adapted Screenplay: Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin (Moneyball)
Animated Feature: Rango
Animated Short Film: La Luna
Documentary Feature: If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front
Documentary Short: The Barber of Birmingham: Foot Soldier of the Civil Rights Movement
Live Action Short Film: Raju
Foreign Language Film: A Separation (Iran)
Film Editing: Moneyball
Cinematography: War Horse
Art Direction: The Artist
Costume Design: The Artist
Makeup: Albert Nobbs
Visual Effects: Deathly Hallows 2 or Hugo
Sound Mixing: Hugo
Sound Editing: Hugo
Original Score: The Artist
Original Song: "Man or Muppet: (The Muppets)

At this point I've seen all nine nominees for Best Picture so I know which I'd prefer to win and which not. I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point anyway.

I like The Artist but it wasn't my favourite film of the year by any stretch. The ones I preferred didn't really get nominated: Melancholia, Drive, Shame, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Senna. From those nominated I don't think there's any I would detest if they won. Well maybe EL&IC and to a lesser extent The Help. They probably shouldn't even be in this category. Or War Horse actually.

I'm still looking forward to the ceremony as always. I just hope that we get one or two surprises to liven things up. I wonder if The Artist really will get a big sweep or if it will be shared out a bit more.

For example, I'm finding it very hard to pick who will win in Cinematography or Original Screenplay. The Artist could grab them or maybe Tree Of Life, Midnight in Paris might stand a chance?
