Tall women vs short women ...

I'm 5"9-ish, which isn't tall for where I live, but it's not short either. It's a bit above average...but my legs are really long and I always feel awkward! I feel like this huge thing trying to move around without breaking anything, esp when I'm around my shorter friends. I never wear heels because of my aforementioned lack of motor skills

My BF is about 5"11, which is perfect :D

i really wish i was taller. i think i'm 5'3 and being taller would make me a lot happier. I guess i would like that because i could wear longer gowns and stand lot more.

I love being 5'1". I used to wish I was at least 5'6" but now that I've started dating, somehow I don't mind it so much :innocent:

I'm 5'4" and I love my height. I think that taller women have an advantage since they've got longer legs, but I just learned to dress for my height.

But I'm petite overall, so that's kind of helpfull.

- and I love being shorter than the guy I'm with - so I don't mind :D

There's some disadvantage with being tall. Most clothing line are made for average height women 5'4-5'7 and being around 5'10 shopping can sometimes be a nuisance. My arms are long and so are my legs. I think I'll have to learn how to make alterations. I have this shirt I really like, the sleeve length is perfect unfortunately it's a size or two too big.

^ Yup I'm the same, I'm 5'11" and it's hard to get a good variety of clothes in tall sizes. I can get plain black/white tops and plain jeans in tall sizes but thats so boring... And they always cost more (logically, as you're using more fabric for taller people) which is annoying!
Although of course it's nice having long legs and being tall :)

I suppose it depends on where you live. Being only 5'4" and living in Scandinavia is hard when it comes to finding right sizes and the perfect fit. Even in the smallest size (XS, XXS, 34 or 32) the trousers are too long, the sleeves of sweaters or jackets are too long, the clothes are made for the long, tall Scandinavian woman. Even designer stores in Oslo don't stock the smallest sizes because the smallest size never sells out.

The average height for girls in Norway is 5'7"-5'10".

Im 5'4" and im taller than every women on my maternal side (grandma, aunts and cousins) and as tall as my dad (even though his siblings are slightly taller than him). Geeezzz Now i feel lucky, I've had the best my gene could bestow. I hope when I change my environment I'll get taller a little bit. Im told that a friend of friend went to France a yr and she leaped from 5'4" to 5'7" in ONE year so I keep fingers crossed :(

Asian girls look very young too, when a 22 yr old friend of mine who is pretty short was in the US, people couldnt help asking if she's a 8 grader.

I came to realize that if I want to look taller, longer-legged, I have to look narrower. You shorties know what I mean :)

I'm 5' 2". I used to think I was 5'3". the loss of that inch was big, cause then I felt short. My sister, who is slightly shorter than me, claims to be 5' 4" on her driver's license.

I'd like to be taller, though my height doesn't really cause me any worry. But when I look at my big feet, I feel like I was meant to be taller, like when people look at puppie's feet to predict their eventual size.

I have this thing to ask. I think 5'11" models and 5'7" mortals can have the same shoes size, right ? Now that's too bad because the taller look better because their feet dont look big. One thing I notice is that people with broad shoulders look taller, consider Abbey Lee :)

Now I would love to be tall, very tall, I wish 8-9 inches were added haha. It's ok even though I live in a country that 5'2" is average. If i were 6'1" like Frida I would still wear heels.

I'm 5'7 (in the morning, and about 5'5 in the evening  I shrink so much during the day). I know many people consider that the 'perfect' height for a woman since it's neither too tall nor too short. But of course I sometimes wish I was even taller and that my legs were longer. I love very tall woman and would love to be 5'10 myself. But sometimes I think it would suck to be this tall and think that I wouldn't be able to pull off that height since I totally lack the confidence to tower over everyone  So I'm actually quite happy with my height most of the time.

I think height is totally not correlated to shoe size. I have EU36 feet while my friend who's 5'2 has a size EU41 in shoes.

Yeah I have to agree location has a lot to do with it. In America the average height is around 5'4.

Height is usually correlated to shoe size. But bear in mind that mutations can stop one person from growing taller. I have a friend who wear size 41 but she's only 5'7" and she was supposed to be 5'11" (only tall people in her family, they're Norwegians), but she's been suffering from anorexia for many years (started when she was in puberty), so the illness stopped her from growing due to lack of nutriments. The average shoe size for people who are 5'7" is size 37-39.

When the children are in puberty, we can tell from their shoe size how tall they can grow/their potential height if nothing goes wrong. I am supposed to be a little bit taller, but I have always been undernourished (I often refused to eat when I was a little child) and I like to blame the undernourishment that I didn't reach my potential height.

(I'm sure about my statements. I used to be disturbingly obsessed with height when I was younger, and did a lot of research in order to see why I was so small, how i could grow taller, etc.. and I remember reading lots of articles concerning shoe size being correlated to height.)

I'm around 5'5"-5'6", and although my legs are proportionately long, I wish I was just a bit taller. 5'7"-5'8" would be ideal. All the designer jeans have inseams of 33"-34", and my inseam is barely 32", so it's annoying to have to hem everything an inch.

I think height does have some correlation to shoe size because when I was growing really fast, my feet grew very fast as well, and when I stopped growing, they stayed at the same size. Currently my shoes are a size 8 so I guess that's kind of large for my height, but I was predicted to be a lot taller (like 5'8") when I was young.

And for everyone who says they wish they had longer legs, I think it's more about proportion than height - for example, you could be really tall and still have short legs in proportion to you torso or be short but have longer legs.

I strongly believe that every woman should feel confidence no matter what her height is.
I'm 5.5" myself which is a normal height (at least at the European south where i live). Back in high school, i had the bad luck to be in the same class at school with many girls-volleyball players and watching them being so much taller than me, i felt horribly growing up, being jealous of their long legs etc but one day i heard them talking about no being able to wear high heels because they feel like giants and that they had problems finding guys taller than them! Then i realised that each height has its plus and minus and that the important thing is to embrace yourself for who you are. It doesn't matter if you're tall or petite. The point is to feel good about yourself.

I'm about 5'10 and living in Asia, and that makes me a giant. Local designers/brands don't make clothes that fit my frame too well, and until maybe about 5 years ago, I would say it's hard to buy shoes for my size 40 feet. I'm also a French 40/UK12/US6-8 and that makes me a size L here.

I was so happy when brands like Mango, Zara, Topshop etc showed up in Singapore in around 1998-99? Finally, chic, affordable clothes in my size! Only at these places I can buy skirts/dresses that actually hit the knee (often they just dangle oddly above it, neither here nor there), trousers that are long enough, and tops big enough for my shoulders and long enough in the body. Not to mention shoes made for broader feet!

Otherwise I'm perfectly happy with my height. The only thing that annoys me a little is people constantly asking me how tall I am.

Haha liny if i were you and if people kept asking me, i would keep answering them because being 5'10" is a thing to be proud of :(. I would even add 1 more inch if im 5'10"

Hello,
I'm on the tall side of this thread (1'85cm - 6'1''). And I :heart::heart: it
I learnt to love it, though, because somehow society doesn't allow you to embrace each inch of yourself for all the reasons that have been mentioned here:
  1. a tall person isn't the average height,
  2. men are supposed to prefer shorter women, or at least shorter than them,
  3. clothes that won't fit in length,
  4. Euphemisms: short women are "petite", tall women are "giant" (from our childhood, we are told by fairy tales that giants are the bad guys )
  5. Most people when they meet me they tell me how tall I am! (Do they really believe I haven't noticed?)
  6. blah dee blah dee blah

But one day I realised I couldn't care less about everything above mentioned, because
  1. Being tall it's my normal height, I've always seen the world from this perspective, or from a higher perspective than the average.
  2. I had never wished to be short(er), not even when I wanted to become a prima ballerina (but in my case, height wasn't an impediment, I would say it was a matter of talent, or the lack of it, for the matter :innocent:)
  3. All my (female) friends, who are obviously shorter than me, are always complaining how much they would love to be taller.
  4. I have the impression, short artists always try way too hard to prove themselves. It's like they crave to be in the spotlight, and get there quite often for all the wrong reasons. Like they need to make up for lacking height.
  5. While taller artists usually do their thing and, obviously, they don't need to do anything else because their appearance already puts them in the spotlight.
  6. I always tend to like, admire or be inspired by "the tall ones", e.g. Karlie Kloss, Eva Herzigova, Shalom Harlow, Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, etc.
So I came to the conclusion that my height is the normal one, but, now, I have complaints: this world is designed for short people :p

Have a nice day, people of any height! :flower:
