Target's Go International with Tara Jarmon

I work at Target and they already put out 2 of her jacket's last week, probably because the Luella racks were lookin' a bit empty. Anyways, there was a cropped black dress jacket and a lavender one as well w/3 or 4 big buttons and a bow belt thingy around it. The material looked kind of cheap but it felt softer than I thought it would be. They were ok. I guess I'll have to see more because I remember I hated the Luella stuff when I first saw it.

FASHION'S NEW TARGET
spacer.gif
TARGET has looked to Paris for the next installment of its GO International program, which saw a collaboration with London's Luella Bartley in February this year. Paris-based designer Tara Jarmon has translated a collection of her trademark simply cut, gorgeously embellished pieces into a budget range for the American retailer. With 23 freestanding boutiques and stockists throughout Europe and Asia, Jarmon is exactly the sort of designer Target wants to tap for its ongoing initiative, both in terms of industry visibility and unique aesthetic. The collection, which includes a navy polka dot puff-sleeved mini shirt dress for £17 and a grey silk camisole for £11, will be on sale for 90 days from May 1. (April 24 2006, AM)

Target unrolls limited fashion line

Samantha Thompson Smith, Staff Writer
Target keeps spanning the globe in search of new fashion, moving this time from London to Paris. In the second installment of its GO International program, where Target teams up with international fashion designers to create limited-time, cheap chic collections, Target has tapped Paris' Tara Jarmon.
Jarmon, who has 23 freestanding boutiques and has collections stocked in stores throughout Europe and Asia, used her trademark style of simple cuts, heavily embellished, in her Target collection. It looks easy to wear, yet trendy, with items such as lavender Bermuda shorts, jeans with satin trim and full eyelet skirts.
She follows up British designer Luella Bartley, who in February launched a collection of schoolgirl chic, with mini cheerleading skirts and red and green cherry print handbags.
Jarmon's collection has a traditional Target price. A navy puff-sleeve mini shirt dress in polka dot print is $29.99. A silk gray eyelet camisole costs $19.99. And cropped denim pants with a cuff are $29.99. Look for the clothes in stores for 90 days starting May 1.

thanks for the info guys! If more clothes come in be sure to update...I hope all the clothes don't look too cheap...

And thanks for the articles!:flower:

I hope the fit is better than it was for Luella....I had to try on a far bigger size than normal and the hip/waist fit was way out of whack!

Hope this line will be cute AND fit well!! ^_^

....luella for target best finds.

i bought the blue/orange/white striped luella mod blazer, the luella jean jacket with the patches, and the luella plain motorcyle jean jacket with yellow stitching all in xs and the tailoring was a perfect fit for me. I also bought the highly advertized 80's green plaid luella sleeveless prom dress and that little green mini-skirt which all fit like a dream. I hated that suede/sheepskin jacket-which even on sale is wayyy tooo high of a price to pay at Target. I think that there wasn't a lot of creativity or thought put into the accessories (all cheap and boring-looking), shorts, or the jeans/pants (fitting and design was cheap-ugly-and i could tell by looking at them that the fit would be bad.) The little cotton tees with the puffed sleeves with the little luella heart zipper were nice-i got that one in white-too bad my boyfriend makes fun of puffed sleeves-boo on him. I collect all the best stuff-cause I have a feeling in 30 yrs or less this stuff will be worth a lot and i love affordable well-made clothes that don't need a visit to the tailors.
Can't wait for Jarmon!

i love puffed sleeves too!

Shopping: Target's Go International

Next stop on Target's Go International fashion tour: Paris. Following London designer Luella Bartley, Paris-based Tara Jarmon has created a fun and flirty limited-edition collection for the trend-driven discounter. It hits Target stores May 1 and, like Luella for Target, will be available for just 90 days.
Jarmon is known for her feminine style and whimsical details. This year, she is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her eponymous line, sold at 23 boutiques and more than 80 stores throughout Europe. For Target, she created a summer look both refined and cool; highlights include a polka-dot puff-sleeved shirtdress, embroidered-eyelet Bermudas in blue and fitted cardigans with satin bows on the sleeves. The rose-colored princess dress could easily work for a wedding — and will only set you back $39.99, which is the highest price in the group. That's why we love Target.

I don't like all the extra bright colors--too young.

I agree, what I've seen so far in the scan, just looks like Luella - Part II:rolleyes:

I was expecting something totally fresh and different, more elegant aka Jill Stuart sort-a-thingy.

I think what is so great about the "Go International" endeavor is that not only does it offer exciting, inexpensive designs, but it also offers exposure to little known designers. I am incredibly sick of big names! This is an awesome opportunity for the consumer as well as the designer.

I loved Luella's stuff when I saw previews of it here and in magazine editorials. Then I saw it in the store and thought it looked way too young for me to attempt. Then things went on sale and I got a few things and found out that I liked them more than I thought I would. I don't see as many people wearing the stuff as I expected, either.

I think a similar thing will happen with the Tara Jarmon stuff. There are so many pieces to the collection that I think that I'll end up liking and acquiring one or two things.

It's similar to the general Target experience. There's tons of stuff but only one or two things that are real bargains that don't look like Target stuff.

I saw some of these jackets too. And I agree that material looked cheap.

i'm really surprised at the lack of promotion the tara line has had - with pictures of the clothes, i mean...
she's a much less well known designer than Luella, so you'd think she'd need more, not less??
I''m really looking forward to seeing what the line looks like, though - the teen vogue page is a bit hit and miss IMHO (love the main dress and the bermudas, not keen on the bag & shirt) but the teen vogue for luella didn't show the best stuff, so I'm still hopeful!!
looking forward to the 1st - only a couple of days now, lol :woot:

i really would like to see more, but what i've seen so far is cute. they had a little spot for it in time out chicago mag (i'd scan it but i don't know how to work mine) since it's coming out on monday. the model had a pretty darling dress on. here are some of the prices they listed:

"Ladylike details such as ruching, embroidery and bows playfully complement curve skimming shapes." ... "Jarmon's flowy designs are easier to pull off than Bartley's punky style, so don't be surprised if a walk along Lake Michigan looks more like a stroll down the Seine this summer."

silk-trimmed denim trousers: $40
puff-sleeved tees: $15
color blocked skirts & dresses: $30-35
silk eyelet camisoles: $20
beach-ready straw bags: $30

i think it's promising, monday's close!

anyone think maybe it will be online tomorrow? since luella came out early?!! i can hardly wait any longer!!!

Target has impressed me. I used to never shop at places like Target because I thought it would be exactly like Wal-Mart with the same tired trends, but I'm quite impressed. My mom even liked the stuff when she saw it, and my mom is quite picky with what I wear.

^ wow, thanks so much for posting that link!
hmmm, now I'm excited, i really like a lot of it - roll on monday :D

I can't wait! :woot: It's hard to tell because the pictures are small, but a lot of the things look very promising! I can't wait to go check them out in person.

Hmmm. Kinda ordinary. The polka dot print looks kind of cute, but I think I'll be polka-dotted out by summer.

My favorite:
