Plaid was popping this New York Fashion Week, with iterations ranging from the subtly chic (a muted, diaphanous Diane Von Furstenberg frock, a sophisticated Carolina Herrera sheath) to the slightly more cheeky (Luella's swingy tartan coats, a bright Betsey Johnson baby doll), as well as somewhere in between (see Marc Jacobs' luxe update of his infamous grunge collection). But whatever your subjective style preference, one fashion fact seems certain: this fall, your wardrobe will more than likely enter a holding pattern.

I've always loved plaid and glad to see it's coming back stronger than ever.... My favorite plaid color combination is medium dark blue fabric with black stripes....

I am not a huge fan of plaid, but some of the looks posted use it in a very chic way. The Carolina Herrera, Luca Luca, and Max Mara suit all appeal to me.
